🧵 Ha salido un estudio de la Universidad de Stanford que afirma que programar usando asistentes de IA produce un código más inseguro.
Es una conclusión bastante fuerte.
No nos quedemos en el titular y echemos un vistazo en profundidad
Los estudios sobre programación siempre hay que cogerlos con pinzas porque suelen tener deficiencias que hacen que no sean aplicables a un contexto profesional.
Merece la pena examinar el tipo de población participante y en cómo se llevo a cabo el estudio
Los participantes eran en su mayoría estudiantes (programas de graduate y undergraduate). Sólo un 15% eran devs profesionales.
En total 47 personas. 14 en el grupo de control.
El nivel mínimo de conocimientos requerido fue examinado por un ejercicio chorra de entender un bucle
Como población no es un número significativo. Pero sobre todo carece de un nivel de habilidad suficiente como para poder extrapolar cualquier conclusión a un contexto profesional
El estudio consiste en realizar 6 ejercicios de programación con problemas potenciales de seguridad.
Hay que programar en Python, Javascript, C y SQL.
El grupo del experimento usa un asistente de IA y el de control no. Ambos tienen acceso a Internet
Las respuestas se clasifican según su nivel de corrección y seguridad
Podéis ver algunos ejemplos de casos inseguros e incorrectos
A los participantes se les pregunta si creen que sus respuestas son correctas y seguras.
Los que usaron IA (grupo experimento) se mostraron más confiados en la seguridad de sus respuestas.
Lo gracioso es que los que tenían respuestas inseguras confiaban fuertemente en la IA
Igualmente los que habían usado IA y tenían respuestas incorrectas, confiaban bastante en que eran correctas
Entonces, esto prueba que usar IA produce soluciones más incorrectas e inseguras que no usar IA?
No. Esto prueba que la IA puede darte respuestas inseguras o incorrectas. Igual que StackOverflow.
Algo que ya sabíamos
La diferencia es que la IA te da una única respuesta. Mientras que en StackOverflow tiene varias respuestas en la misma página, valoraciones e incluso discusiones sobre ellas.
Son herramientas diferentes. Ambas muy potentes
La clave del estudio está en que había participantes que sabían que la primera respuesta de la IA era incorrecta o insegura.
De modo que eran capaces de seguir interactuando con ella hasta dar con una solución correcta y segura
Y es que la IA no deja de ser una herramienta más. Muy potente pero una herramienta.
El que programa es el desarrollador. Y si no tiene las habilidades suficientes no será capaz de asegurar una solución correcta y segura

Verás que es tan sencillo como decirle que te dé un código seguro.
