Action sports defines my identity. Building the first action sports social network before the term “social media” took over the web has had such signifant impact in my life.
Through my startup I met my future mentor Tony Hsieh (whom I miss just about every day), attracted a team I still adore (even beyond that startup existing), learned how to produce amazing content shooting over 100 skate surf and snow videos. Discovered going viral on YouTube.
Pitched Sequoia Capital . Got to attend the very first Y Combinator before it was YC when it was called “Startup School” where I got to meet developer William Williams. The only other dev I knew at the time was my co founder. Meeting a dev was so exciting.
My startup taught me about leadership and company culture. It taught me how to raise venture money. It taught me resilience and preservance. I’m so proud of the company I built despite it not reaching the vision I had for it.
And to my first co founder Sam Ghods - I couldn’t have done it without you (thank you). And double ty for plugging me into Jason Fried and Ruby on Rails. What an iconic time in tech history.
Here’s to always being a quirky, edgy, loving, passionate, curious, connective, risk taker. Appreciate you Oli Russell-Cowan for sharing your platform @RadSeason with me to tell my story.
There’s soooooo many more wonderful humans to mention from advisors, investors and teammates. Those are for a different post at another time. For now none of it would have been possible had Sam not taken a chance on me Day 1. 🫶
