Typefully is fantastic and way too cheap for what you get.
We’ve tried many alternatives at @framer but nothing beats it. If you’re still tweeting from Twitter you’re wasting time.

What is the esoteric meaning of rest?
Why do creators often struggle with getting it?
And how does all of that impact your personal brand?
Let's find out.
⸺Thread⸺
I've been on a break for almost a month now. And I've learned something that predates all things our creator culture is built on.
In fact, it goes against it.
And that is Rest.
We know we need it. We even desire it.
Yet our cultural languaging spits on the face of Rest.
This is likely because of the limiting belief that to Rest means to Retreat.
Because where there is Retreat, Rest will closely follow.
Let's look at Retreat...
We know Retreat from the anti.
"Never back down."
"Never surrender."
"Never retreat."
But why is this important?
Anti-Retreat is embedded in our culture.
And most creator culture is a byproduct of American culture.
Look at the titles of movies, songs, and mottos (e.g. US Marine Corps). It's even in US law & legal doctrine.
It's on merch, coaching services, gym motivation quotes, etc.
The idea is so thematic in our culture that Frank Miller took ancient historical events out of context, turned it into a comic book, which was later adapted on screen with an ultra large fanbase.
Listen to part of this epic speech from King Leonidus:
While these aspects are to be celebrated, they have a dark side.
Remember, Rest is often where Retreat is.
Retreat invites us to Rest.
But a culture celebrating "No Retreat" will often not respect Rest by association.
Let's take a look at how language and meaning changes...
1611: "There's no rest for the wicked" (A Biblical phrase, Isaiah 48,57)
1744: "There's no rest for the weary" (A colloquial phrase)
1920: Fitzgerald in This Side of Paradise uses Wicked positively
1960s: Wicked as "cool" in American slang
2008: "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked"
Funny enough, this is one of my favorite songs.
There's a subtle acknowledgement of all humans being sinners with no right to judge (something some religious subcultures are notorious of).
Yet it's also a 2am bar song for the drunks avoiding going home.
This kind of love for negative energy can become the start of a slippery slope into a vicious cycle.
It's how addicts are born.
And, my friend, we are all addicted... to something.
And it will define how we view Rest and our relationship with it.

Let's take a look at a few religious, esoteric, and spiritual perspectives on the concept of Rest.
These are from perspectives that focus their energy around worshipping a higher power.
These are some simple, yet radical perspectives especially in our crazy modern world today.
From a Judaic perspective, rest comes as a day of Sabbath (Saturdays).
It represents the 7th day God finished his Work of Creation.
The argument is: if the Unresting Creator of all realms set an example of Rest (gratitude of creation), then who are we humans to resist it?
In fact, the Hebrew word "Shabbat" (to rest) is one of the root words for "sabbatical" meaning "to break from work"—an accepted form of institutional rest.
When you see professors and long-standing employees go on sabbatical, it often renews and revives their work in the future.
From a Christian perspective, rest is when you reconnect and restore your connection with God, observed on Sundays (The Christian Sabbath).
It's an act of revival for your mind, body, and soul.
It's the foundation for building a life of faith and walking with God.
From an Islamic perspective, the Qur'an states:
And one of His signs is your sleep by night and by day ˹for rest˺ as well as your seeking His bounty ˹in both˺. Surely in this are signs for people who listen." [The Romans 30:23]
The unofficial day of rest on Fridays: Jumu'ah.
In Buddhism, Retreat & Rest are emphasized to achieve inner peace.
In Hinduism, Rest is intertwined with the concept of Balance whereby yoga and meditation help achieve it.
In Taoism, Rest encourages alignment with the natural flow of life to achieve a harmonious wellbeing.
There are even non-religious perspectives that promote the concept of Rest:
- Modern Wellness Movements
- Holistic Health Practices
- Positive Psychology
- Secular Philosophy
- Cognitive Science
Imho they're all just adaptations of scripture/ancient concepts without the Sacred.
From a Feminine perspective, rest is the art of being still and reconnecting to the energies of abundance and flow.
It's letting energy settle on its own and doing nothing so to conserve your vessel and avoid drain.
Rest is an act of receiving, the quintessence of femininity.
From a Creator perspective, Rest is the one thing that stimulates your creativity.
You cannot be truly creative until you allow your inspiration to flow in a state of isolation.
This article is simply written, and yet expresses this idea in totality: clairenakti.com/post/creativity-is-birthed-in-isolation
From a Brand perspective, people who see you confident, composed, and ready to come back after a period of Rest want to know:
- What did you do on your rest?
- Why did you take one?
- What did you get?
If you see Rest as a necessity, others will perceive Rest as a necessity.
Even from a Strategic perspective, generals who did not engage in Retreat suffered losses that lost battles.
But failing to not fully Rest (adept training) their men would lose wars.
Rest is the art of knowing when to lose a battle to win the war.
Rest is accurate use of force.
The restorative aspect of Rest is bar none.
It is scientifically proven to be the best healing mechanism in the body.
It's a natural state to enter into when the body knows it is ill, injured, burned out, stressed, depressed, mentally fried, etc.
It is organic wisdom.
Rest improves every facet of your life.
Your health, your mental clarity, your spirituality, your money, your business, your relationships, your skills, your brain power.
And most of all, your creativity—the very thing you are positioning on this platform against the millions.
How does one rest?
You can do this in community, or alone.
I often prefer solitude. I love to reconnect with myself, my Creator, and feel the flow of femininity and creativity.
Much of what I can't rationally explain to myself now is explained in time through a period of rest.
I also love resting with others.
This can be a planned event at a lodge, or a spiritual retreat specializing in the practices you want to deepen.
Or it simply means going by the water and sitting in silence together, or grabbing a coffee and people watching in silence.
If you think back on your relationships, the best ones give you a feeling of rest, relaxation, restoration, reinvigoration, and all aspects of revival when you are with them.
Being at rest is our default. Work is the lie we make it to be.
Rest is an act of trust, of faith.
What do you do on Rest?
Anything that increases your tranquility. Let your intuition guide you to do activities that restore your energy and fill you with gratitude and inspiration.
- prayer
- lying flat
- being silent
- reading books
- having a spa day
- singing and dancing
The best and most sustainable way to imbue your days with the concept of Rest is by reinstating or rebuilding a self-care routine.
Self-care is the basis of how you show up online.
Those that do not help themselves, have no business helping others.
In the future, I'll share various methods of my self-care routine and explore how sharing yours can influence an audience positively and negatively.
It's my hope to inspire you to show up more fully, as you are online by becoming the outcome you dream of—an Outcome Of One™.
