There's no denying that TikTok is a great place to build your brand right now
Here are 10 quick tips for getting started—WITHOUT spending $$$ on ads
🧵👇
1/ Pick a niche
Many of the best content creators have a specific theme or topic that they focus on, without jumping around
2/ Be consistent
You don't have to post 10 times a day, but it is important to be consistent with whatever schedule you choose
I'd start with 1 or 2 posts per day and just keep showing up
3/ Test different formats
TikTok is a great place to test different kinds of content, like:
✅ short-form text posts
✅ longer "talking head" videos
✅ entertaining skits that use popular sounds
...and more
You won't know what works for your audience until you try it all
4/ Become a storyteller
People connect with stories, so try to build them into your videos
Study how some of the best storytellers craft short-form content, such as this example from @MarkSommervilletiktok.com/t/ZTRr6esVD/
5/ Engage with others
Just like Twitter, you can grow your following faster on TikTok if you engage with other accounts
Build connections with creators who are similar to you and find ways to help each other
Example: Spend 5-10 mins per day liking / commenting on other vids
6/ Bring the energy
I was skeptical when I heard this quote from @themissexcel, but it's true—the energy you put into your videos makes a big difference in how people respond to it
7/ Open with a hook
A hook is something that happens at the very beginning of your video that keeps people watching
Some ideas for hooks include:
✅ Hint at a fascinating story
✅ Do something unexpected
✅ Share an amazing result
✅ Create an "open loop"
✅ Ask a question
8/ Record within the app
This is up for debate, but if editing in-app makes it easier for you to get started, while also allowing you to create something that "looks" more like a native TikTok, why not do that?

9/ Go live when you can
TikTok Live is a great opportunity to create deeper connections with your audience and show up more often in the feed
Find a way to make your Live videos engaging and helpful, just like @megangersch does
10/ Have fun with it
If you take TikTok too seriously and make it feel like "work," then you'll probably get burned out
So have some fun and go with the flow
After all, it's a "new" platform compared to Facebook, Instagram, etc., and we're all still learning
