Typefully is fantastic and way too cheap for what you get.
Weāve tried many alternatives at @framer but nothing beats it. If youāre still tweeting from Twitter youāre wasting time.

.@zetablockchain is attempting to link all blockchains together within a single EVM-compatible L1.
But how? By having built-in support for cross-chain txs.
I was curious, so took a quick look at the cross-chain docs (zetachain.com/docs/architecture/modules/crosschain/overview/) and this is the rough outline..
Zeta nodes run observer clients, which monitor other supported blockchains.
When they observe an inbound transaction to Zeta, nodes vote on its validity. If found to be valid, the final voter pays the gas cost of executing the transaction on Zeta.
Inbound transaction can not only deposit tokens from other chains (which become ZRC-20), but also make contract calls to Zeta contracts.
For outbound transactions, a threshold signing ceremony is used to reach consensus in sending a signed transaction to another chain.
Interestingly, the outbound Zeta transaction doesn't itself finalize until the transaction on the other chain has finished executing, making the whole thing atomic.
Presumably, for transactions heading to BTC this means the Zeta tx would take 10 minutes to finalize?
Thus, the asset bridging in Zeta functions similarly to existing bridges, except that the base chain itself operates the bridge. The security of the bridge is thus dependent on the security of the consensus backing Zeta and that of the chains being bridged to.
This approach is still lacking compared to what a trust-minimed bridge between two zk chains would offer (i.e. "trust math, not validators").
However, I like Zeta's approach in that it's better than having a fragmented ecosystem of private bridges, each having a hack risk.
On another note, using threshold signing schemes to have a group of nodes operate a wallet for another chain seems to be the standard for doing this sort of thing. @Stacks is doing the same for their upcoming sBTC peg.
