Two months ago I started @gnars_dao and have done ~ 16.5 ETH in NFT sales.
Now I've convinced @nounsdao to give us 69 ETH to sponsor extreme athletes!

Here's exactly HOW we went from "forum to quorum" so you can too:
But first, some background...
I've a long history with skateboarding and building communities. About 15 years ago I started one that became really popular.
We held events, raised money for charity, sponsored skaters, released artist collabs and even made wearing helmets cool.
Early December last year, I was having coffee with a good mate of mine, who happens to be an NFT collector too.
I was picking his brain about DAOs and expressing my interest and somehow we landed on Nouns and CC0 in general.
Soon enough I was riffing "Skate or DAO" on my iPad.
Didn't sleep that night.
I wondered what my old skate community would've been like if DAOs were a thing.
Nouns DAO was all I could think about but the idea of my own DAO was daunting.
So I started working on Gnars to simply answer one burning question:
Do I... Skate or DAO?
Then one Friday in early January, what was then @skateordao got its first DM from none other than @punk4156 himself.
It was the boost of confidence I needed, especially after being so clueless about navigating the whole CC0 thing.
I'd previously said on discord the "first skateboard headed noun [...] is mine!"
January 27 rolls around and Noun 189 appeared, along with a couple DMs and Discord pings... "You're up."
I scrambled to raise the funds, purchased skateordao.eth and prepared to bid.
89.89 ETH..!
Despite having just spent more than the value of my mum's home, I was comfy as could be, proposal ideas flowing.
But at first I lacked the courage to publish a proposal. I was afraid I might seem blindly ambitious.
A thread by @lilnounsdao changed that:

Within @nounsdao there's lots of talk about culture, and rightfully so, we're busy proliferating the meme āāØ-āØ
Pondering the thread, it was Lil Noun's framing of SUBculture that helped me join the dots. I wasn't alone...
ie. Subcultures as Sub-DAOs:

Preparation for my on-chain proposal and a much bigger 69 ETH ask began with a rough draft on @hackmdio that I shared with some Nouners.
I then posted it in the proposal-ideas channel on Nouns discord and fielded some questions from the community.

I took the feedback received and mulled it over with some friends ā a sanity check.
After a few more passes I copied over my markdown onto the Nouns forum.
I used lots of data, plenty of detail and specifics and most importantly, I told a story.
This step was the most nerve wracking. All that was left was pushing the proposal on chain.
As a Noun owner I can submit proposals myself. If you don't have a Noun, don't worry, you can get a Nouner to sponsor your proposal.
My DMs are open, so hmu!

Key takeaways:
1. You likely belong to a subculture
2. Probably have domain expertise
3. Try "get a vibe check real quick"
4. Proof of concept @nounsgrants
5. Get feedback on a rough draft
6. Publish - discourse.nouns.wtf
7. Get a Nouner to sponsor you
Erupting with ideas?
Perhaps like I was, you're feeling a little apprehensive, suffering from impostor syndrome, or maybe you're just skeptical.
In that case, on my website the ever so helpful @blownedeth has gone deeper on this topic so you don't have to.
Worth a read!
