Nirvana. The grunge sensation of the early 90s emerged from a place now famous for being the epicenter of overpriced coffee. Their logo? A smiley face with crossed-out eyes crowned with the iconic, ONYX font. What does the Pacific Northwest of the USA have to do with genart?
A few of you know. Most will be pleasantly surprised. Nirvana was signed by Sub Pop records who, at the time, had an Art Director, Lisa Orth. Who is Lisa Orth? A DJ, gifted musician, tattoo artist, fx(hash) OG, fish breeder, and staple artist in the genart community. Wow...
As a Nirvana fan and someone who relates to the birth of alt music, my curiosity peaked. Before the blockchain, Lisa had made a name for herself in multiple mediums from music, graphic design, and her signature line based linework based tattoo work (dope) ...
Coined with titles like the Lesbian Mayor, Lisa Warhol, and an Enigma, one thing appears consistent... you can expect to find Lisa at the forefront of artistic expression, probably the most alternative one there is. Here is a great video of her story: youtu.be/rycW5SFZCqM
I have but a few Lisa Orth genart pieces and remain tattooless, but it is well worth your time to view her work. Lisa continues to produce pieces in and out of the digital space. I, on the other hand, get to continue to enjoy the releases. fxhash.xyz/u/Lisa%20Orth
A few of my favorite projects? Of course, this marvelous piece titled "Find Us Outside" a 1/1 on @objktcom the color palette is reminiscent of those you see in several of Lisa's other works, but this one just did it for me.
PS-GDP 1.1 is a piece created with pixel-sorting and Delicate Void III is part of a series exploring the effects of light into dark, its opposition, and the textural remains. She is currently putting out a series called Generative Paintings. objkt.com/profile/lorth/created
From there we have some of the most iconic releases on fx(hash). My personal favorites are A Stitch Is Fine, Ask Me About The Dimensional Shift, Between Stations (which I'm still eyeing), Open Concept, and Winter Jacket.
I first encountered Lisa's work through the project Ask Me About The Dimensional Shift. It appears I should be asking about this dimensional shift as I found myself rediscovering the joy of browsing her work like it was the first time... while writing this... got a few more.
