GPT4 with Vision is the "perfect" Art Historian. Let's explore whats possible today... here is some art. 🧵 A thread

I started by finding this painting. It's my heritage.

GPT4 Vision get's back with it's thinking and description of what it sees... I got curious...

I had GPT4 with DALL*E 3 interpret it from the above description to still my curiosity.

Back to GPT4 with vision, I provided the only context I had (hint I knew a bit more than I let on)

Then GPT4 with vision get's on to nail the painting. "The painting depicts a historical event involving Queen Christina of Sweden and Gian Rinaldo Monaldeschi." This is absolutely correct

Let's see what more we can get out of GPT4 with Vision...

The answer is okey, a bit reluctant, but it's giving me enough to dig a bit deeper. Let's try to provide the artist name.

Yup, GPT4 nailed it, except it got the year wrong by 2 years, this painting is painted in 1853... Let's confront it.

After a regular GPT confrontation we can indeed conclude that the model was wrong and corrected its mistake. Gave a clear answer to why it gave me the wrong answer.
