My Journey of Quitting a 9-5 Job

Five months ago, I quit my 9-5 job to concentrate on DeFi writing. Best decision ever! I am happier, more productive, and have greater earning opportunities. Here's my experience if you also want to quit your job: 🧵
Quitting a well-paid job during a bear market is either the dumbest or smartest decision. Dumbest, because money is tight across the industry. Smartest, because bull run exuberance is gone and expectations are more realistic. It's up only.
I'd avoid quitting without a decent financial cushion, though. A typical guideline suggests 6 months of runway, but I think you might need a year. It took me 9 months and 40k+ Twitter followers to get the first blog sponsor! Sidestep monetary stress when starting out.
Find what you are genuinely curious about. I research and write about DeFi. When I come across a topic that gets me curious, I can't stop thinking about it until I hit "Tweet." So, what really excites you about crypto besides money? twitter.com/shivsakhuja/status/1644141322209738752
F*ck around to find out is real. No one will tell you what to do. You'll need to find out for yourself. I continuously experiment with content & monetization models to see what clicks. Results may surprise you, and you'll (probably) end up better than you expect.
Be different to escape competition. Crypto is cool because you can create your own job role. • Professional meme creator? āœ… • DAO governance expert? āœ… • Airdrop hunter? āœ… E.g., @MikyuSky_eth is a freelance digital artist who made this banner for me.
Your journey is unique. While stories like mine may help, your path will differ. No one will tell you what's right for you. Embrace self-discovery, take risks, and move forward one step at a time. Progress, bit by bit.
But the journey isn't lonely. The day I quit @thedefiedge offered his advice on how to move forward. I'm also grateful to: • First blog sponsors: @SiloFinance & @DeDotFi • @Instadapp for ambassadorship role • @nansen_ai for exclusive partnership You'll find frens too!
If you're still worried, ask yourself "What's the worst that can happen?" There'll always be a job waiting. Skills gained while working for yourself make you even more employable. The worst-case scenarios often aren't as bad as they seem.
The reason I'm sharing this is because I'm still figuring it out myself. And writing helps me consolidate my ideas. That's my learning and moving forward process: learning while doing.
Yet probably the best advice has been offered by a close friend: "Ignas, just f*cking do it!" And I did šŸ˜… You can't fully prepare for what's going to happen. Once again, the best decision ever.
