El caso de Musk y Twitter ha sido el culebrón financiero del año.
Lo que no todo el mundo sabe es que Elon NO ha sido el primero en echar para atrás un acuerdo de adquisición de Twitter.
En 2016 Disney también se echó atrás con el contrato en la mesa.

Resulta casi impensable.
¿Disney adquiriendo Twitter?
No creo que sea fácil encontrar dos empresas con perfiles de usuarios tan distintos.
Todo tiene su explicación.
Lo cuenta el director ejecutivo de aquel entonces, Bob Iger, en sus recién publicadas memorias.
Tras las 3 grandes adquisiciones de Disney (Lucasfilm, Pixar y Marvel), la empresa se encontraba ante el dilema del innovador.
El streaming on demand estaba ganando terreno y tenía que decidir entre seguir explotando su IP a través de intermediarios o crear su propia plataforma.
Por aquel entonces Netflix ya iba como un cohete.
Tenían que actuar rápido y elegir entre sus 2 alternativas:
Seguir exprimiendo la vaca o construir su propia granja
Solo la decisión de retirar su contenido de Netflix ya suponía una pérdida millonaria en ingresos por licencias
De aquí surgieron muchas dudas:
¿Tenía sentido canibalizar sus ingresos inmediatos por un modelo de negocio todavía sin validar?
¿Serían capaces de desarrollar la tecnología necesaria?
¿Cómo reaccionarían los accionistas?
A pesar de todo, Iger estaba decidido en llevar hacia adelante esa transformación.
Ahora la pregunta era si desarrollar la tecnología internamente o adquirir una empresa con el trabajo ya hecho.
A la velocidad a la que evolucionaba la industria, la 2ª opción parecía la mejor.
De todas las alternativas, las FAANG estaban fuera debido a su tamaño.
Tampoco ninguna de ellas estaba interesada en adquirir Disney.
Como curiosidad, Iger cree que si Jobs siguiera vivo, Apple y Disney se podrían haber fusionado.
Las únicas opciones factibles eran Snapchat, Spotify o Twitter.
Por encaje, eligieron Twitter.
No les interesaba la red social, si no la capacidad de distribución de contenido.
Su idea era la de utilizar la plataforma para hacer llegar sus películas y programas a la audiencia
A mitades de 2016 Disney se lanzó a comprar Twitter.
A los pocos meses ya tenían el acuerdo encima de la mesa.
El por aquel entonces CEO y fundador de Twitter Jack Dorsey también estaba en el consejo de administración de Disney por lo que la predisposición de venta fue mayor.
¿Qué pasó entonces?
Pues irónicamente Iger se echó atrás por la cantidad de cuentas falsas que había en la plataforma.
¡El mismo argumento que Elon Musk!
Iger señaló que una parte sustancial de los usuarios de Twitter no eran reales, y que eso acabó influyendo en su decisión.
También habló de conflictos de marca.
Todos sabemos lo que hay en Twitter.
Llamarlo "rage and lack of civility" puede ser una definición conservadora.
Eso obviamente podía suponer un peligro para la reputación de la empresa.
Curiosamente en la presentación de resultados de ese trimestre, Jack Dorsey admitió que no estaban gestionando bien la dualidad entre libertad de expresión y abuso en Twitter.
Finalmente Disney adquirió una participación en BAMTech, una plataforma de streaming de deportes.
Compró el 33%, con la opción de adquirir una participación mayoritaria en el futuro.
Un año más tarde adquirió el 75%.
En 2018 BAMTech pasó a ser Disney Streaming Services.
En 2019, Disney adquirió 21st Century Fox y el control mayoritario de Hulu.
En el Q2 de 2022, Disney superó a Netflix en suscriptores totales, llegando a los 221 millones:
