.@MrBeast changed 4 times the thumbnail of his last video. I've created over 1500+ thumbnails & titles in my career, changing them can be really useful but in this case, it won't be that effective. Let's see why.
Every video has a reach potential. "How to fix error 87457459 on windows" and "I gave $10 000 to a homeless person" Don't have the same reach potential, obviously. You can pull the best thumbnail of all time for the first one, the second will beat it no matter what.
From my experience, 5 things are affecting the performance of a video, ranked by importance: 📂 reachability 1️⃣ topic/concept 2️⃣ curiosity power 3️⃣ the content itself x 4️⃣ title 5️⃣ thumbnail (x, because T&T act as a multiplicator)
In this case, the concept is "hide & seek with 100 people", with money at stake. A concept @MrBeast has been milking for a while now, which is common when you're a creator (I'm guilty of it too).
The problem when you milk too much a concept is that it starts becoming stale after a while, it loses its originality damaging the curiosity power which highly affects the reachability. In this case, we can see a downtrend, the concept is running out of steam.
The only difference between the previous ones is the money at stake being increased. And with $1 000 000 he's hit a ceiling hard to break (even though it was 500k in reality).
Technically, the title of the video is good as it clearly communicates the concept. There are not so many viable variations (maybe 5 max) as it's already clear enough. He was right to let it be as it is. The thumbnail however has INFINITE possibilities.
The performance of the video is limited by the concept (that can't be changed), and all 4 thumbnails are pretty accurate and not that confusing. The 3 & 4 are those that illustrate best the concept but only by a small margin as the title is already providing enough context.
In my opinion, changing the thumbnail won't change the trajectory of the video in terms of views by much. If it was the first of its kind, it would've been a banger. That's why you need to understand the context outside your video as well, not just the video itself.
THO, keep in mind that @MrBeast is playing on another lvl, this video has a special event tied to it: He opened his very first physical Beast Burger in the American Dream Mall. I wouldn't be surprised if they did some kind of partnership (Beast Burger x American Dream Mall).
So it's definitely possible that the video in the mall was a part of the deal (pure speculation), which means he was limited idea-wise and the safe bet was to pick a concept that already proved it works, as the stakes were too high to take a risk here.
Since none of you is @MrBeast, TL;DR: ➡️ Put a lot of energy into your concept/topic ➡️ Make sure your title & thumbnail communicate it clear enough ➡️ If so, leave it. If it's confusing/misleading change it A bad CTR is only a consequence of this, act accordingly.
