I spent my last day as @Poynter faculty on PTO — connecting with my amazing 17-month-old, with former colleagues and new friends. I didn't realize how disconnected I had become. It's good to be back! 🤗
But I can't end this day without a Poynter highlight reel. (tape = 🧵)
✌️ I'm most proud of the personal study and time I spent developing expertise in trauma-informed leadership, which I see being marked by empathy, resilience and action. I'm humbled to have been trusted to train 1,000s of journalists this year alone on trauma and resilience.
I learned from neuroscientist Dr. Bruce Perry that connectedness has the power to counterbalance adversity, and this idea serves as the bridge for helping journalists better understand the impact of trauma AND how they can manage those impacts. twitter.com/katikokal/status/1549823001444622336?s=20&t=jNyES86aGl806haf8Tiyig
I appreciate the autonomy I had at Poynter to create programs like Lead with Influence, a unique curriculum for women/nonbinary journalists who lead projects, products and processes—not people. @kathyluwho is now lead faculty and you should totally apply! poynter.org/shop/leadership/lead-with-influence-october-2022/
💥 And I can't forget the women's leadership academy!💥 Aaaah.. this program is forever close to my heart 💖 Because of this academy, as I have said since 2016, my career has accelerated at a pace I and taken on a trajectory I could not have anticipated. poynter.org/shop/leadership/poynter-leadership-academy-for-women-in-media-2023/
