"Every single person who wants to do something and has done something with their life has gone through the exact chapter that you're going through - 'The Lonely Chapter'."
Perhaps you're in yours... I had one too; embrace it.
What is 'The Lonely Chapter'?
👇
The 'Lonely Chapter' is a transitional phase, a sign that change is on the horizon.
It's a period when you're caught between a life you no longer want and the life you're ready to embrace.
This is a time of potential when a new, more fulfilling life is within reach....
But you're not there yet...
- You don't have the clarity of mind to know what you're working towards
- You don't have the outcomes to fit into a new group
- You don't have the skills to succeed in the new space you're venturing into
- You don't have the proof of progress
As a result, your motivation is highly inconsistent
With no signs of success, you're questioning if it is worth it, constantly called back to the previous life of comfort & predictability, where friends & family know you and your skills match the requirements to 'succeed.'
It's a dichotomy... and your best opportunity to create the next you
Caught between two identities, you can create a new one that fits who you want to be, not taking a specific identity of either or anyone...
If this sounds familiar, here are my tips:
1️⃣ Choose the Lonely Chapter
There's a difference between being alone and being lonely
You can be alone but not lonely
You can be lonely but not alone
When you bring attention to this, you take control of your emotions and have the power.
Sometimes, the loneliest moments are found in a crowd
Knowing you're amongst friends and feeling alone can be the most isolating feeling
Once you choose The Lonely Chapter, you realise it's part of your growth and a stage to embrace and enjoy instead of bathing in sadness
2️⃣ Make clarity your priority
Once you know where you're heading, the unpredictable levels of motivation become the waves of change rather than scary stops and starts.
Be highly specific about your goals and intentions - only you can do this and know what you want.
3️⃣ Acquire the skills by trial and error
Amass the skills required for the next phase by trial and error
Don't work in silence; try things in public - public trial (and failure) helps with accountability and consistency
4️⃣ Find role models, then become your own
Discover people who have done what you want
Work out how they did it & what skills they acquired
Then, use your Clarity 2️⃣ to become your own role model
Keep reminding yourself of your vision as "we become what we think about"
5️⃣ Accept & embrace your peculiarities to become exceptional
Life is a long journey of self-acceptance
The earlier you can accept your own peculiarities as part of you, rather than trying to justify them, the faster you get where you want to go...
You can not do what everyone else has done and expect NOT to get what everyone else has got
It all comes down to valuing your opinion of yourself more than other people's opinion of you...
Be weird, be different, be exceptional
Though more retrospectively, this theory has certainly helped me make sense of my phases of transition and likely will provide comfort in any future transitional era
