The 🫀 Heart of Babylon finishes its second epoch this Friday.

The Heart has returned 173% APR.

We are proposing changes to increase its sustainability and survive the 🐻 market.

Let's analyze the performance of each KPI and mechanic

🚀 APR: 57.89% in 4 months -> 173% ✅

The heart has over-delivered. As its capacity grows, the risk needed to maintain this APR becomes unsustainable.

Suggested Change: ⬇️ Decrease baseline APR to 30%

📈BABL Price: From $48 to $31. 3% drop.  ✅

The heart has provided constant support, stability, and demand for BABL by collecting protocol fees.

The heart has performed relatively well during the context of the bear even compared with blue chips like ETH.

🍶 Capacity: 20k -> 80K ✅

The great demand forced us to increase capacity 5 times. 

25% of the circulating supply is now locked.

Suggested Change: ⬆️ Capacity to 150k to save enough space for unlocks.

🌱 Note About Seed Round Unlocks

In July, seed investors unlock 33% seed tokens or 65K BABL. 

We have talked one by one with all of them. 

93% of them plan to either stake or lend their BABL tokens.

We'll create OTC trades for the rest.

🔒 Locking Period: 2 months ❌

Short Periods are creating a lot of overhead for the team.

The heart is also forced to close and recreate all strategies every time, reducing capital efficiency and returns.

Suggested Change: ⬆️ Lock period to 6 months - 4 years.

🗳️ Governance Power

We want to let users choose their individual lock period based on their conviction. 

The longer you lock, the higher APR you will receive and the higher your voting power.  Similar to how veCRV works.

🎟 Bonding Program: Up to 5% discount. 🚧

These bonds allow users to provide the protocol with assets it desires and receive extra staked BABL in return.

Suggested Change: Add a 10% DAI bond to increase PCV.

🧮 Splitting the fees

Now, let's focus on the fees collected by the heart.

0.5% mgmt fee 
5% performance fee

How are these fees used?

💰 BABL Buybacks: $210K allocated. 7K BABL purchased. 🚧 

We believe that we should reduce the % of the buybacks. 

In a 🐻 market, you need to prioritize survival and expand the protocol treasury.

Suggested Change: ⬇️ buybacks from 30% to 10%.

💹 BABL-ETH Liquidity: $37K allocated 🚧 

$286M is currently needed to move the price by 20%

Suggested Change: ⬇️ BABL-ETH from 25% to 10%.

🌴 Garden Investments: $22.2K allocated 🚧 

We believe that this mechanic has been underutilized.

We want to make the voting power more valuable and encourage people to lock their BABL to be able to direct the fees to their gardens.

Suggested Change: ⬆️ investments to 20%.

⚙️ Fuse Pool: Lent $27k in DAI to the Fuse pool. 🚧 

Leaving the Rari hack aside,  the market grew to a total of $9M in TVL. Once the reimbursement is issued, we propose reducing the fees but increasing its rewards.

1/  🫀 The Heart of Babylon is a microcosm of #DeFi

Follow this 🧵 to understand how and why they were chosen.

2/ 🔐 First of all, the heart is a Babylon Garden (pool) that lets user stake their BABL for two months at a time and generate extra BABL.

BABL in ->> ++BABL out

A staking mechanic is needed to align incentives rewarding long-term supporters.

3/ 🏦 Heart receives all the fees from the protocol 

0.5% management fee
5% performance fee

These fees give the heart the fuel to perform the following 5 mechanics. Similar to $xSushi.

4/ 🔁  Token Buybacks

30% of all the fees collected are used to purchase back BABL.

This creates a floor of demand and generates stability for BABL holders.

5/ 🦄  Add Liquidity to BABL-ETH

25% of the fees increase the liquidity of our pair in Uniswap v3

More protocol-controlled liquidity is good to prevent downward price spirals and better trading depth.

Inspired by @OlympusDAO bonding program.

6/ 🌴 Garden Investing

15% of the fees are reinvested into our gardens (DeFi Investment clubs)

This increases the returns of our pools and creates a flywheel effect for our pools similar to @CurveFinance gauges.

7/ 🏛 Treasury

10% of the fees are sent to the treasury.

As the protocol grows, we want to increase the war chest to fund even more initiatives

8/ ⚙️ Fuse Pool Liquidity

20% of the fees are used to increase the liquidity of the Babylon Lending and Borrowing markets on @RariCapital 

This is critical to give BABL holders (and the heart) the possibility to lend BABL, alleviating downward pressure.

9/ 🚜 On the other side, the BABL staked is put to use in the following way.

Lending BABL in the Fuse Pool
Borrowing assets
Using the assets to generate 

This generates even more yield for stakers and dogfoods our existing DeFi investment club infrastructure.

10/ 🎟 Last week, we also added a bonding program to give discounts to people that provide assets to the heart.

5% discounts on BABL-ETH LP token
3% discount on Fuse Tokens

This ensures the protocol can signal the assets it wants to accumulate and provide incentives to get them
