I've been wanting an Oculus for a long time.
I finally bought one, and here's what I think:
The experience is amazing; you won't know unless you try it.
I played a few games and was into it within a few minutes.
The video of people hitting their TVs while playing VR? That can happen more often than you think!
Now I know why Mark put his whole company behind this technology and why he is so bullish about it.
The potential is there for this technology to change how we interact with technology today.
But it still lacks a few things that would make me want to use it every day.
1- 🕸️ Social Angle:
It is still expensive to experiment in countries such as India.
The major friction for me not going to it is there are no friends I can talk to while playing. The ones who are using it are 12- to 15-yr kids who are racist and have no sense of conversation.
2- 🏋🏻 Heavy:
The Quest 2 has come a long way from the HTC Vive, but it's still not comfortable to wear for 5-6 hours.
I tried watching a movie on Netflix and couldn't even make it through an hour before the weight started irritating me.
3- 🪝 Lack of Hook:
I play Valorant almost daily because I love to compete, improve, and win.
I can't find any Quest games where I can track my daily progress or become a pro at a game. Pro players drive most competitive games.
It is just fascinating how we interact with technology. We progressed from sending letters to sending emojis. There is still a lot of development in this space, but it looks promising.
If anyone is already using this, do share your experiences with it.
@VarunMayya I see you love playing on this. What keeps you hooked? If not, what do you think they can improve on to get more people to experience this technology?
