Ethereum's upcoming Shanghai upgrade is set to activate EIP-4895, enabling $eth staking withdrawals on the mainnet.
Here's an easy-to-understand explanation of how it's gonna work:๐งต
Shanghai, with EIP-4895, will be hitting Ehtereum mainnet after successful testing on the public testnet Goerli.
Then validators can withdraw their staked ETH.
Validators can choose between two ways to withdraw:
partial withdrawals (PW) for just the extra rewards over 32 ETH, and full withdrawals (FW) to take out everything, including the initial amount and earned rewards.
For PW, validators need to set up their withdrawal info and hop in the withdrawal queue.
This queue processes 512 validators per epoch, or 16 per slot.
For FW, validators join an exit queue based on the churn limit, which comes from the number of validators and a withdrawal queue.
This setup helps keep the stake and security steady.
FW goes through both the exit and withdrawal queues, while PW only goes through the withdrawal queue.
For FW, there's a wait time of 256 epochs (27 hours) for non-slashed validators leaving and 8,192 epochs (36 days) for slashed validators.
Once EIP-4895 is active, the piled-up consensus layer rewards become available, and new ETH rewards are handed out automatically.
And that's the scoop! Its simple and queued, no need to worry about mass exits or any major FUD.
