Top 5 Reasons Poker Players Suffer From Burnout And End Up Quitting Forever (Plus Solutions)
I asked 1000 poker players what causes burnout. Here were the top answers:
1. "I burn out when the game gets boring." Solution: Variety. -Mix in other games. -Play live and online. -Travel for a change of scenery. Find poker events in new cities and GO.
2. "I burn out when I end the month in the red." Solution: Normalize downswings. **Affirm** "I am a professional poker player, this is normal." Then stay accountable to your process.
3. "I burn out when I feel like I'm not making any significant upgrades to my game." Solution: Get gritty. -Explore new strategy content. -Game-ify your study sessions. -Don't let good questions go unanswered. Not taking IDK for an answer is a true sign of grit.
4. "I burn out when I lose sight of things outside of poker." Solution: Map the year. -Identify things you truly enjoy doing. -Set aside time for each thing. -Build a new schedule accordingly. Then periodize it. Certain months will be more work than play. This is normal.
5. "I burn out when I'm chasing stats and can't hit certain targets." Solution: Re-align expectations. Poker is a game of slow feedback loops, and certain stats take longer to converge. Match your expectations to the speed of the loop.
TL;DR To avoid career-ending burnout: •Add variety •Normalize Downswings •Get gritty •Map the year •Re-align expectations
