Next Friday, new music! 🎧

I say "new" but it's quite old actually.

I wrote it back in 2009. I was on a deadline, because the next day I was flying to LA to work with a producer and hopefully make a new album.

I was so scared/excited, that I wrote 5 songs that day! 😲

Long story short, nothing really happened with that collaboration. I went and recorded some demos, but came home empty handed.

Not everything was a waste of time, though. I really liked one of those songs, which I continued performing over the years every time I got the chance.

There's something special that happens when you perform a song live.

You really finish writing the song on stage.
Sometimes you improvise a little, and parts of it end up in the song, and other times you fail miserably.

This is part of a process.
Some songs need time. 🕰️

In 2013, years after I wrote the song, I decided it was time to record it.

I was playing a gig, and I got in the studio with the band the day after. We recorded two songs, and one of them was "Walk Your Own Way".

This time, the recording went great!

I can't explain why, but I never released this song.

Maybe I was too insecure, too afraid, or too much of a perfectionist.
Or maybe all of the above. 😅

The point is, I wish I did it then, but I'm doing it now. 💪

We did re-record/add some parts, but we kept the original vibe.

Some songs come out easily, and others go through a long process.

Long or short, the process is the reward.

Walk Your Own Way

We're releasing the original demo of Surreal. 🎧

No changes, no re-recordings, no arrangements. 

Just the raw emotion of piano and voice. 🎹🎤

It has many mistakes and you can hear my voice shaking sometimes.

The song wasn't even finished then, but the feeling is there.



This was 10 years ago, and I had been writing songs almost every day, with no real purpose other than the joy of doing it while building skills. 🔨🪚

Usually, I would work on a song for a few days, make a demo and move on to the next one. ➡ 

This practice led me to incredible songwriting and composition opportunities.

But, inadvertently, I also built a catalog of music that remained unreleased for a long time.

It's my wish to share my journey with you, hoping my experience can be motivating for you.

This is what art and music is all about:
inspiring yourself and (hopefully) inspiring others too.

I truly believe that's our purpose in life.

Let's inspire each other and see what wonderful things we can create.

Original Demo Release

We're releasing a track this Friday! 💿💪

The song is called "Surreal" and I can't wait for you to listen to it!

For this release we have a few more surprises coming up.

We're also releasing a visualizer tomorrow, which we'll be sharing once it's live!


In the midst of a lot of things going on in the world and our personal lives, we have to make a point of putting in the effort to create the art we believe in.

That's what's important in this strange life.

But that's precisely our idea!

The challenge is to write, arrange and record a song, all in one day.

We're calling these Red Button Sessions, and we'll be doing more!

Overthinking is often the enemy of creativity, and we wanted to create an environment where it can flow freely.

So we came up with this experiment, and are very excited about sharing the experience with you!

We have no idea of what's gonna happen. We could just make a hideous track 😂, or maybe a timeless hit!

Regardless, we'll document it and post content just for you. An exciting adventure for sure!

Red Button Sessions

In a world of AI, how should artists approach creation?

Let's be honest; we're all thinking about this.

It can write, design, make music; and it's only getting started!

If you think it's not very good at it, just wait...

Truth is, we don't stand a chance.

BUT

We might be asking the wrong question here.

I think AI is making us reconsider WHY we do what we do.

The act itself is the reward.

We don't need any other validation.

Maybe we're not meant to compete with AI 🤖

I gotta be honest though;

I dislike the idea of "AI collaborations".

The notion that you can borrow someone else's artistic voice through AI, seems like a vane experiment to prove a point.

I don't think this is why we make art.

So then... WHY do we do this?

Why do we stay up late writing?

Why do we share our art with our friends?

Why do we hope for approval when we publish it?

...

Because we are human.

And we care about the human experience.

Humanity is what makes art stand out.

If AI is fast, we should be slow.

If AI is perfect, we should be spontaneous.

If AI is convenient, we should be compassionate.

Lean into your vulnerability.

Your art will become a home for others.

That's what makes you human.

The humanity of art

We plan for many things.

But those plans fall apart more often than not. And we're forced to change them at the very last moment. 💡

We thrive by improvising.

We don't just adapt to our environment;
we transform and create.

Creativity and Improvisation

A few months ago I went to the ER for a strange numbness in my arms and legs. Turned out I was having an anxiety attack...

Then a week later another, then one more...

I also discovered that my overall health was in very poor condition.

So I started making radical changes.
🤝🤝

You saw me release music.
My family saw me start a diet.
My friends saw me lose weight.
My coworkers saw me quit my job.
My kids saw me feeling happier to be myself.

But most importantly...

I felt joy.

Fortunately, now my health is better and I'm still improving.
🙌💪

The unexpected side effect has been that I feel more inspired and centered.

I've been making music and I feel comfortable in my own skin.

Sure, I feel scared because I have big challenges ahead.

But also I feel ready and motivated to tackle them.

If any of this resonates with you, know we're on the same boat.

Whatever dream you have, it's time to make it happen.

Make a plan, but mostly just start.

Take a small step, then another.
The path will reveal itself.

You deserve your creativity, and the world deserves it too.

We deserve our creativity

Releasing music in 2024 is WAY different from what it was 15-20 years ago.

It really feels like learning everything all over again.

This experience has made me reflect on the artistic implications of streaming platforms.

Ignoring the fact that actually making money from streaming is nearly impossible, the biggest change I see is the format 💽

Format defines artistic expression, and it actually dictates the way music is experienced and created.

The album format used to be the standard for releasing music, and now it's less prevalent.

Now, if you record just one song you can simply upload it and see how it works out (which is basically what I'm doing).

There aren't many limitations these days.

On the other hand, the way music is consumed nowadays tends to be passive, like a background of our daily activities.

Active listening isn't the norm anymore.
I still remember getting together with friends just to listen to music 👴🏻

The format changed our consumption habits.

And the format has changed music too.

Popular music is now optimized for people's shorter attention spans.

You don't like a song? Next! ⏩

This isn't a limitation of the format itself, but more of a reflection of modern society.

But the format does enable this pattern.

Am I complaining? Nope.
(Well maybe a little 😅)

But I'm also looking forward to exploring this form of expression and being as creative as I can be.

As far as the financial aspect... that's a tougher conversation for later... 😬

For now, let's just worry about the music 🎵

The Evolution of Music Release Formats

It's official!

I'm excited this music will finally see the light of day! ☀️

Hopefully it will find the right ears and inspire the right souls.

We came to this world to transform and create.

I truly believe this to be our purpose in life.

It's amazing the way inspiration comes into our lives when we least expect it, and then disappears.

It almost feels like catching a fleeting moment of illumination, hold it for as long as we can, and then seeing it touch another artist, as we realize it belongs to the world.

Art is what happens in this shared experience.

Reptiles: A Musical Journey

Confession time:
I've been hoarding music for the past 15 years 😅

Rough demos, sketches, voice notes, complete songs, and even fully produced tracks. A little bit of everything...

BUT...
I'm finally releasing some music! 😎

My goal has always been to create a constant stream of music to release into the world (at which I've failed miserably so far).

But I don't give up easily, so here's another go at it! 💪💪💪

The first song I'm releasing was recorded 9 years ago in LA.

We tracked two songs in one night and they were pretty much finished, except for mixing and mastering.

But I never got around releasing this material, because I didn't think they were good enough.

This was right before my daughter was born so I had a lot on my mind and my priorities had drastically changed.

Coincidentally, these songs have become some of my daughter's favorites.
Maybe she remembers them from when she was in the womb?

Sometimes the hardest part about making art is accepting it for what it is.

This was certainly my case.

It took me almost a decade to appreciate what I had created and decide to share it.

I chose this track because it reminds me of a very important time in my life:
when I became a father.

Warning: this song isn't about fatherhood at all ❌

It's simply a story I came up with during that time, which I liked enough to turn into a song.
