Here are 3 ways: 

Option 1) via Command line

You can pass `--nodata` option when you launch `labelme`: 

Option 2) via GUI

Before saving the annotation, you can uncheck:

File &gt; Save With Image data 

Option 3) via Config

You can edit ~/.labelmerc and set `store_data: false`.

This makes the default of the checkbox in Option 2 unchecked when you open next time.

Tip #2 - How not to embed imageData in JSON

"How to annotate wheels?" 🛞

Image annotation of wheels is tricky as it has holes and hard to represent its shape with a single polygon.

Here is how: 

1) First annotate the whole boundary as “wheel”.

Here I use shape type of ”circle”, but any shape type will work. 

2) Annotate the holes as “background”.

The idea is that the “background” region will be removed from the “wheel” (i.e., foreground).

Note that the order in the “Polygon Labels” list matters ("wheel" should be the first). 

3) Visualize it with `labelme_draw_json`.

Make sure it will visualize as expected. If not, make sure the order of labels in the step#2 is correct. 

#) Advanced tip:

If you have multiple wheels in an image, maybe you need to use “group_id” to annotate from which “wheel” annotation you want to remove the “background” annotations.
