*Why is articulating design decisions such a struggle?*

After facing my share of feedback, it took over a decade in design to finally refine my words and perspective.

Bloom's taxonomy offers a roadmap for navigating the levels of thinking and learning. In your design journey, you absorb frameworks, ideas, books, videos, and endless dialogues. After 3-4 years, you gain some worldly insight. With eager eyes and a still-growing vocabulary, you attempt to articulate—falling into stages 1-3 of Bloom's model.

As confidence builds, you start writing, articulating, or maybe even diving into content creation. You obsess over style, often missing the essence of comprehension and clarity. This is where writing prompts come into play, marking the transition to stages 4-5.

Before you jump to Stage 6: creation, you need to have a wealth of experience that helps you lean into your expertise and assemble it in a clear, resonant manner.

"Denken mit der Hand," or "thinking with hands," truly captures the creative process. By crafting multiple versions and drafts, you uncover gaps and critique your work, while exposure enhances this journey.

When someone else's words resonate, it's often because you haven't yet found your own. Take a moment to pause, learn, and absorb your experiences—you'll discover you possess those very words, ready to flow.

If you're aiming to clearly articulate your design choices, insights, or any part of life, embrace these stages and, above all, remember to "Denken mit der Hand."

Navigating Design Decision Struggles

Apple’s launch of the Hearing Aid feature for its AirPods Pro clearly shows that the company is considering the lifecycles of its users, not just the product lifecycle.

With many first-world countries facing an aging population, this feature is timely.


The hearing aid feature also removes the stigma most users have and introduces hearing aid features in a familiar wireless buds format, making it easier for hard-of-hearing people to belong in conversations without drawing attention to themselves.

Though I'm yet to see real data on this, I'm excited to see how it helps many.

I'm sure my late grandfather would have appreciated it.
