Bohdan Daszak's Wartime Records

I present here a second record of Bohdan Daszak's time in the Waffen-SS 'Galicia'. Peter Daszak's father, Bohdan, was fond of two things in his life: music and football. The first record I presented was linked to him playing in the orchestra of the SS-Galicia POW camp.

So it is fit that this second record (bit.ly/Football_Galicia) mentions him as part of the football players of the SS Galicia, when it re-grouped in its training camp in Neuhammer. That was after the defeat at Brody (Jul 1944), and before being on the move again by end 1944.

We can conclude from this new document that Bohdan was at Neuhammer in Sep-Oct 1944. He may have been in the administrative section of the SS-Galicia training camp. Himmler had 7K men (recruits + transfers) added to the 3K survivors, to get the Division ready again by Nov 1944.

This may well confirm a point made in Gifted Lives about Bohdan working in a German camp. ⚠️: Gifted Lives is full of factual errors that paint a fake misery story, I listed them as footnotes below.

In short. Bohdan Daszak comes out as a young man working in a SS training camp and playing football with German units, which were stationed close to notorious concentration camps or participated in the rounding up of Jews for the gas chambers. That's sanity or insanity in war. Maybe both.

7 years after the publication of Gifted Lives, John gave a more succinct story, in an interview for Zbruc, an online newspaper from Lviv. He confirmed there that music and football were the two passions of Bohdan and what helped him through the war. zbruc.eu/node/72896

Still, we need to look at individual records and motivations to be able to judge individuals. While the misery story of Gifted Life is fake and error-ridden, the elements I have gathered here don't tell us much about these.
