Among the 14 disease endpoints meta-analyzed in GBMI, the largest difference in SNP heritability between ancestries was observed for gout. This is due to both differences in allele frequencies and effect size between ancestries.

For e.g. the SNP-h2 of gout is ~5% in EUR but ~9% in EAS. This difference is probably driven mainly by a single variant within ABCG2 (urate transporter), one of the two top genetic determinants of serum urate levels

The ABCG2 variant is present in ~25% of East Asians explaining 8.3% of the phenotypic variance vs  7.3% of the Europeans explaining only 3% of the phenotypic variance in Gout.
