This little canister can save your life!
The chemical oxygen generator provides emergency breathable oxygen for 10 - 20 min at a steady flow rate. It weighs only one third of the weight of the oxygen it produces and has a very long shelf life.
Oxygen Generators are filled with sodium chlorate which when ignited produces oxygen as it burns. By pulling the mask towards yourself, the spring-loaded firing pin is pulled, releasing the hammer that smashes a cap creating a spark to light the candle.
Each mask comprises a facepiece with valves, a mask suspension device, a reservoir, or rebreather bag (when used), a length of tubing for connection to the oxygen supply source, and a means for allowing the crew to determine if oxygen is being delivered to the mask.
Chemical reaction in the generator produces external temp over 500°C. Required by 14 CFR 25.1450(b)- Surface temp developed by the generator during ops may not create a hazard to a/c or its occupants.
It is to be kept in a way that adjacent equipment can't be too close, damaged
