Style Tuner is a true game-changer for MIdjourney. Let's look at this practical example of how you can affect and improve every single one of your prompts. 🧵

Back in July I created this image using the following prompt:

Tweaking a Style Tuner shared by the amazing @ciguleva, I got to this amazing look that I intended to use on street photography prompts:

Which I can now combine with any of my previous prompts. Here's how some of the new close-up images came back.

One-word prompts in Midjourney. ✨

While they can yield generic results, they offer a glimpse into how words can enrich more complex prompts. Think of them as 'ingredients' for building sophisticated queries. How does Midjourney "see" unusual words?

Meaning: Deviating from the norm.
Example: "The aberrant behavior was unexpected and shocking."

B - Belligerent

Meaning: Hostile or aggressive.
Example: "The belligerent stance complicated negotiations."

C - Cacophony

Meaning: A harsh, jarring noise.
Example: "The cacophony of the city overwhelmed me."

D - Disparate

Meaning: Essentially different in kind.
Example: "The disparate elements somehow worked together."

E - Enervate

Meaning: To weaken or drain energy.
Example: "The heat began to enervate me."

F - Feckless

Meaning: Lacking initiative or effectiveness.
Example: "A feckless approach won’t solve this issue."

G - Garrulous

Meaning: Excessively talkative, especially on trivial matters.

Now that we have a good idea of how Midjourney translates these words we can use them as notes to our beautiful prompt song. Here's an example (prompt in ALT):

How to go from a can of sparkling water to a beautiful spaceship illustration scene in less than 2 seconds? Let's learn...

Also, it takes more than 2 seconds. But it's quick.

First, change your Midjourney version to Niji 5. Just follow these steps:

1. Open your Discord server chat.
2. Type /settings.
3. Make the necessary changes.

Here's what mine looks like.

Now, take a clean photo of your favorite soda, tea, beer, or water can and ask Midjourney to /describe it.

Midjourney will offer four prompts based on how it sees your photos. You will find clear references to the object and colors.

Now the fun part. Select each prompt and, before submitting, change the reference to the beverage to something else. In my case, I replaced bits like "a can of spindrift popping wine soda" with "a cylindrical shaped space submarine", leaving everything else untouched.

Here are some results with their complete prompts.

You have complete control of the theme. Here I changed my subject from the spaceship theme to something more mundane, with "a glass tower".

This is a great point by @LinusEkenstam. I keep seeing photographers (for the most part), designers, and artists from all places whining about AI while learning nothing about it. "It has no soul", and "it will never be better than the real thing" are common expressions.

AI creators are often subjected to shame and called out as nothing but glorified plagiarists. However, this fear of the new thing blinds people from what's really going on. Here's what's clear:

1. AI is here to stay.
2. It's improving at an alarming rate.
3. You can't avoid it.
4. Soon, it will surpass humans.

You might not agree with the last point, and that's okay. But here's the thing:

AI is already outperforming most humans on this planet. Even if ChatGPT can't beat Shakespeare just yet, it's still a better writer than 9 out of 10 people you know (including yourself).

Sure, anyone could ask Midjourney to imagine a banana and get incredible results out of the box. But randomness is not the way this is going. We're witnessing the rise of a new group: people who can communicate with AI and command to produce what, in the past,

only highly skilled, talented our outright geniuses could create. And when a soul is not required (we can talk more about the soulless issue another time), the "prompt guy" will deliver better work, quicker and cheaper.

So, are artists doomed? Ha, glad you asked.

.@LinusEkenstam is right. As a creative, embracing AI now will give you an edge over everyone else. You already know the principles of your craft - be it light, typography, harmony or anything else. Those will make you fluent in the AI vocabulary way quicker than the rest. So...

Do yourself a favor. Stop whining and try to understand what's coming. If you think something is wrong, unethical or weird, add to the conversation. Stop fighting it. There's no way you can win.
