Raycast is obviously beautifully designed, really, just look at that wraps design, or their website, or store!
But as I said, I'm a decade and a half Alfred user, why did I decide to finally remap my โฅ+space key?
Let's start with a centralized store!
I've developed at least 10 public and private extensions for Alfred, and having users discover them was always a big pain!
There have been community attempts, but it's not the same.
And they update automatically!
With @raycast you can discover & install extensions like so:
Quicklinks! Take a website's URL, replace the dynamic part w/ {Query} and BAM, you just integrated any website into @raycastapp
Today, @perplexity_ai released their birdSQL, so here's how to create a super quick advanced twitter search Quicklink
Btw check them out, searching Twitter with AI is super cool, I wish they were part of @TwemexApp. But now the search is at least inside RayCast. I bet when @perplexity_ai inevitably open their API, @raycastapp will implement this super fast with inline search results.
K moving on to clipboard history + @CleanShot integration!
As an AVID CleanShot admirer (I gift it for holidays, to new friends etc') I was blown away by this!
Clipboard history has image preview, actions, and even tweet preview and OCR is just loads better than Alfreds.
In addition to that, there's a full extension of @CleanShot that's incredible, allows you to interact with CleanShot directly from anywhere. Sold right there, can't go back! But there's still so much more, and this is my first night with RayCast!
So covered clipboard history, and quicklinks, any other Alfred features I should port? Oh yeah! "KILL command" is one of my old time favorites. Chrome browser stuck? cmd+space + KI and search for process to just kill. I use it ALL the time.
@raycastapp has this of course:
A quick search through any Application menu items was always my hidden productivity hack! There are tons of apps, I don't know all their shortcuts! This teaches you the shortcut and executes the action!
Don't remember how to do a Union command in Figma? Now @raycast can help!
I think the whole concept of File Actions is better in Alfred, there's a dedicated shortcut on a file/folder selection that opens up only the actions that can be run on files.
But it's still possible with @raycastapp and is super simple as well. Copy path, open with and more
I can go all night honestly, I haven't even started exploring the fact that you can run Shortcuts and automations for pretty much everything?!
How about a deep @home_assistant integration? Yup,. fully fledged with all entities, automations, scenes and whatever you'd like!
I don't like the auto-switch on AirPods as it's been flaky. Switching to AirPods and back to my speakers has been with me in Alfred for god knows how long.
Quickly found that not only Raycast has this, it switches almost instantaneously!

The ray.so integration is just gorgeous!
raycast.com/garrett/ray-so
Select any piece of code, anywhere! In any of your editors, Github, as a OCRd result from any screenshot of any slide in a tutorial. Doesn't matter! It creates instant gorgeous snippets ๐
I don't use Rocket emoji, and have been used to the native Macos Emoji picker, which is one of the most forgotten Apple things ever.
It OFTEN gets stuck, doesn't appear with no reason, and loses focus!
Remapped cmd+option+space and just look at this gorgeous @raycast picker
I switched to @ArcInternet by @browsercompany and haven't looked back since.
@raycastapp has a search tabs and history extension!
It works great for searching history, but doesn't switch to tabs inside Arc, not sure why ๐ค
Of course GIFs everywhere, that's a given right? RIGHT?
But there's also GPT-3.5 and DALL-E straight from your fingertips!
How didn't anyone add Stable Diffusion? Should I? (ok yes I will, when SD releases super quick generations, this would be killer)
And a "quick" GPT-3.5 from ANYWHERE you are didn't hurt anybody did it?
Just look, select a tweet, say "summarize" and BOOM, summary!
"This tweet highlights the potential for using
GIFs and new AI technologies such as GPT-3.5
and DALL-E to create more engaging content..."
I may keep adding things to this thread as I find them, but suffice it to say, all this and IT'S FUCKING FREE!
So, if you're stuck without a ... gift for the holidays, give the gift of productivity and ... install RayCast on the mac of someone you love ๐๐
