Altryne 2022 recap, 10 AI driven projects, a few twitter success stories and a startup

Personal 2022 recap 🧵 I've built 10 or so AI related projects in the past 6 months. One of them has received 1.5 Million unique page views since November in addition to millions of video views. All of them kind of built on top of each other, so here's a recap and a timeline 👇

Aug 9 - Built my first DALL-E prompt helper extension. twitter.com/altryne/status/1557167298837991424

2 days after the release of this extension, DALL-E became paid, and.. I saw a bunch of tweets with #stablediffusion so got into the beta discord and started !dream-ing Aug 28 - The stable diffusion was open sourced and I joined forces to create the first "nice looking" SD WebUI twitter.com/altryne/status/1563452692399214594

This project quickly blew up! And I was going on a pre-booked vacation, and other folks took over, but I feel like I helped it get to the 4.5K stars it had. Kudos to @hlky_ and other folks who continued working hard on this repo before Automatic1111 took over as the main webui

I also wrapped the above in a colab notebook for a 1 click install for folks who don't have a GPU at home. Many folks reached out and said thanks as they couldn't have played with it otherwise. github.com/altryne/sd-webui-colab

Sep 22 - I released a preview of myai.art extension. The chrome extension is now live btw, ya'll can use it until my credits run out hehe. Just let me know if you want in and I'll add you. twitter.com/altryne/status/1573357692294467587

As I was working on the extension and myai.art, I wanted to build something cool to get folks to register to the beta version. So I went into a room for 3 days and 3 nights and came out with... @vidtranslator Oct 4 - @vidtranslator was born! twitter.com/altryne/status/1576741225226698752

.@vidtranslator quickly showed a lot of traction, way more than my chrome extension, which I had no idea about how to monetize, so I decided to focus on that. By end of October, the bot was passing me with the number of followers and getting millions of videos views! twitter.com/altryne/status/1585428738241855489

By November, It was clear to me that this needs to be my main focus, so I've decided to found targum.video I had the amazing luck to go to #cloudflareConnect22 and meet with tons of great @Cloudflare folks and demo on the fly to @zatlyn 🤯 targum.video/v/b1400a89efa24731b5335da628102164

The demo that I showed was finished on the plane to SF (literally) and I was shaking that it wouldn't work. Since I moved the whole system to @Cloudflare Stream and hosted the website on workers, I wanted to get into the Cloudflare Workers Launchpad. Something else happened on Nov 17, we exited Twitter as our main infrastructure. I got some great advice by @ashevat about not putting all my eggs in one basket, and this helped us exit Twitter but still continue growing virally. Then in early December, #chatGPT was released and I... had to play around with it (at the expense of adding features to Targum 😮‍💨) I know I know, focus is important. Dec 03 - Built a chatGPT powered Telegram bot with support for google search and stable diffusion! twitter.com/altryne/status/1598902799625961472

Dec 15 - Then I've joined the @AssemblyAI Hack-a-Thon and built from scratch a new telegram bot that you can talk to, and have it pretend to be, pretty much anyone. It was amazing! twitter.com/altryne/status/1603164043082096641

Dec 16 - Then we were all leaving twitter for a second and mastodon links were getting blocked, so I quickly built this linker with Cloudflare workers. (this one is not related to ai) It has 1 button deploy to workers. Luckily that policy was reversed. twitter.com/altryne/status/1603933142317940737?s=20

My last day at @fundbox was just before the end of last year. And after 9.5 years here, I'm now embarking on a new journey with targum.video. I had to leave with style, so I did this : twitter.com/altryne/status/1608515537063092227

targum.video now has around 10-15K daily unique visitors. I'm still shocked that it's that much, but I've checked, and yeah, we've had 1.5 million unique visits since launching the website in middle of November. And 2023 is all about making this a viable business!

Some acknowledgements. @huggingface were gracious enough to provide me with a GPU to get started with @vidtranslator (thank you @julien_c @abidlabs and @deliprao for the connection) I then switched to @LambdaAPI A1000 (and recently downscaled to A10) and thanks to them as well!

.@StabilityAI folks were super awesome! Had I not spent time in that discord and community, I wouldn't have learned to productize AI models, so their open source-ing has secondary and tertiary effects! Kudos @EMostaque, @Dan_Jeffries1 and the rest of this amazing team!

I've mentioned them countless times, but @Cloudflare have been nothing short of amazing, and honestly without them tons of this wouldn't have been possible! So another shoutout.
