In this tweet 🧵thread 🧵 i'm going to share with you the ULTIMATE improvement feedback loop. It's incredibly simple, but most golfers are not doing it diligently enough. Bookmark this for later reading Let's go 👇👇👇👇
1a - the first stage is to hit a shot and then define whether it was 🟢good enough or 🟢could do with improvement It's important to set parameters of acceptability to avoid us making excessive changes. E.g. a drive that lands 15 yards left is NOT worth changing
1b - a wedge shot that lands 15 yards left IS worth changing. I teach players to make changes when 🔴the shot falls a long way from good parameters 🔴a clear pattern/bias is emerging
2 - the next stage is to identify what could be better at IMPACT This is partly a feedback thing, and partly an education thing. Regarding education, I'm talking about your depth of understanding of ball flight laws.
For example, lots of people who hit a pull hook think they've come over the top (path left) They then attempt to change their path to more in-to-out when it may have not been the issue (may have just been overly closed face) This lack of understanding can create a negative loop
Regarding Feedback 🟢Face spray will tell you face contact 🟢A tee on the ground can tell you ground contact 🟢Ball flight will tell you path and face (with irons)
3 - The next stage is to add an intervention this could be a feel/intent (internal or external) that neutralizes the issue. E.g. if in your last shot the face was too CLOSED, add an intervention that makes the face more OPEN for the next one Very simple, but the key is 👇👇👇
Implement something that actually works!!! So many golfers pick an intervention that 🔴doesn't relate to the impact variable 🔴has a low chance of success 🔴in some cases, even CAUSES the issue they're trying to fix this is an education issue.
RELEVANCY - In my online programs, I help players learn which swing changes/interventions help specific impact issues. E.g. want to present the face more open? X/Y/Z are the options for that.
I talk all the time about "out of 100 golfers" This is because I always think of an intervention in terms of what % chance it would have of changing a player's desired impact variable E.g. if you add more weight shift to a golfer, 90% of them will hit the ground farther forward
You can actually TEST and see which intervention works best for YOU. I have specific protocols in my programs to help you do this.
4 - the next step is actually to repeat the cycle. So it looks like this 🟢hit a shot, decide WHETHER to change 🟢decide WHAT to change at IMPACT 🟢implement a high % INTERVENTION 🟢repeat My brain is constantly in this feedback loop in my own game and with students
If you want to learn more about how to ⚫identify faults ⚫rectify with interventions that work ⚫train to speed up learning ⚫transfer your skills to the course better Check out my game-improvement programs here - adamyounggolf.com/products/
