More benefits to less bounce and less dynamic loft πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ We know that, to create maximum spin, we need good friction. This comes from less stuff (grass/mud etc) being trapped between the ball and the face
In this example, the ball is in longer grass. We are presenting no shaft lean/60 deg of loft In order for the club to contact the second groove, the club must swing deeper through the grass
This is the same scenario with the grass overlayed. The contact point with the face and ball is in yellow
If we lean the shaft forwards and reduce loft, we can strike the same groove on the face while the club is not as deep in the grass. Also, the contact point with the ball and face moves up - moving it farther out of the grass A double benefit
This image shows a comparison of the depth of the contact point (between ball and face). Dotted yellow = with shaft lean/reduced loft solid yellow = with 0 shaft lean
Here we see a comparison of the depth of the club Solid blue = no shaft lean/more bounce dotted blue = more shaft lean/less bounce Both are striking the same groove on the face
So, with this thread we've learned, more shaft lean 🟒allows us to swing the club mass less-deep through the grass 🟒allows the ball/face contact to be higher/more "out of the grass" 🟒thus allowing more friction and thus spin
In the next few days, I'll be releasing another tweet thread on how steeper attack angles can help us further. Follow me @adamyounggolf for more - and turn on notifications so you don't miss it.
