Would the first #Bitcoin satoshis (sat) mined by Satoshi Nakamoto himself be worth more than a sat that was mined today?
@rodarmor believes it would, so he built a way to track individual sats (what he calls Ordinals).
A 🧵 to get you up to speed on ordinals👇
First, this is defiantly NOT FA. There are a LOT of sats (2,099,999,997,690,000), so the chance of any one of them being worth more than any random sat is slim. I just want to introduce you to the concept, so DYOR🙏
Ordinals are serial numbers for sats and are assigned when the sat is created. So when Satoshi mined the first block the very first sat is Ordinal 0 and the last sat of the block is Ordinal 4,999,999,999.
What do you think the value of Ordinal 0 would be?
Interesting to think about.
The odds are no one will ever have access to that particular sat, but what are some other interesting sats that collectors might like to have?
There's the first sat for each block - There are around 750,000 of them.
How about the first sat after the Bitcoin network gets a difficulty adjustment ~ 350 of those sats.
The first sat after a halving - only 3 of those bad boys.
And the first sat ever. Ordinal 0
These are just made-up 'firsts' that collectors might find interesting.
Others?
@rodarmor has started a bounty - offering 100,000 sat - for the oldest Ordinal submission. So far the oldest entry is from a block 24 days after the genesis block 🤯
