GST Registration Applicants in Chhattisgarh, Goa, and Mizoram Must Undergo Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced a new biometric-based Aadhaar authentication process for GST registration applicants in Chhattisgarh, Goa, and Mizoram, effective December 15, 2024.
This initiative aims to enhance the security and integrity of the GST registration process by verifying applicants' identities through biometric data and original document verification.
Key Highlights of the New Process:
• Amendment to Rule 8 of CGST Rules, 2017: Applicants identified based on data analysis and risk parameters are now required to undergo biometric-based Aadhaar authentication.
This involves capturing the applicant's photograph and verifying original documents submitted during the application process.
• Implementation by GSTN: The GSTN has developed and deployed this functionality in Chhattisgarh, Goa, and Mizoram as of December 15, 2024.
• Document Verification and Appointment Booking: After submitting Form GST REG-01, applicants will receive an email containing one of the following:OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication Link: Applicants can proceed with the existing process if they receive this link.
• Appointment Booking Link: Applicants must book an appointment to visit a designated GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for biometric authentication and document verification.
• Appointment Scheduling: Applicants receiving the appointment booking link should schedule a visit to the designated GSK within the timeframe specified in the email.
• Required Documents for GSK Visit: During the GSK appointment, applicants must bring: A copy (hard or soft) of the appointment confirmation email.Jurisdiction details as mentioned in the intimation email. Original Aadhaar Card and PAN Card. Original versions of documents uploaded with the application, as specified in the intimation email.
• Biometric Authentication at GSK: The GSK will conduct biometric authentication and document verification for all individuals listed in the GST application Form REG-01.
• Application Reference Number (ARN) Generation: For applicants undergoing biometric-based Aadhaar authentication, the Application Reference Number (ARN) will be generated only after the successful completion of the authentication process at the GSK.
• GSK Operating Hours: The operational days and hours of GSKs will be determined by the respective state administrations.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the security and authenticity of the GST registration process. By introducing biometric-based Aadhaar authentication, the GSTN aims to strengthen the registration process and mitigate potential risks.
Applicants are advised to adhere to the instructions provided in the emails and complete the biometric authentication process within the specified timelines to ensure a smooth registration experience.
