니체는 말했다. '나를 죽이지 못하는 고통은, 나를 더 강하게 해줄 뿐이다.'
인생에 고통스러운 일이 닥칠때마다 읊조리고 되뇌일 수 있는 멋진 말이다. 하지만 시간이 지나면서 남용되기 시작했고, 특히 군대나 조직에서 불합리한 구조를 내면화 하는 도구로 많이 사용되는 문구가 되어버림.

다른 생물들과 마찬가지로 인류는 기본적으로 생존하여 최대한 많은 유전자를 다음 세대에 전해야한다는 무의식적인 목적이 프로그램 되어있다. 이 과정에서 인간은 생존하는 데 유리한 시스템을 발전시켜왔고, 그 시스템은 여러가지 다른 순간에 다른 감정을 느끼도록 작동해왔다.

두려움, 불쾌감, 분노와 같은 얼핏 부정적으로만 보이는 이런 감정들은, 사실은 위험을 감지하고, 생존에 해를 가할 수 있는 요소들을 감지하고, 스스로에게 경고를 보내기 위해 진화한 시스템이다. 그리고 그 중 가장 대표적인 감정이 고통이다.

따라서 어떤 상황에서 고통이라는 감정을 느끼게 되었다면, 그것은 뭔가 피하는 것이 나은 문제가 발생했다는 것이고, 이럴 때 인류는 자동적으로 이 고통이라는 감정에서 최대한 빨리 벗어나도록 프로그램 되어있다.

긴 인류의 역사를 통해, 추위가 주는 고통을 피하기 위해 동굴 찾기, 집짓기, 옷, 불 등이 발전했을 것이고, 허기의 고통을 피하기 위해 더 나은 사냥과 수렵의 방법을, 더 나아가서는 좀 더 안정적인 음식 생산 방법을 고안했을 것이다.

무엇이 음식이 되고, 무엇이 해로운 것인지 알아내기 위해, 수많은 생물들을 닥치는 대로 먹어 보았을 것이고, 그중 어떤 것이 인류를 살리는 식량이고, 어떤것 생명의 위협을 가하는 독인지, 고통을 통한 학습과 성장 기억을 통해 지식을 축적 시켜왔을 것이다.

따라서, 우리의 인생에 고통이 끊이지 않는 이유는 간단하다. 고통이 생물학적으로 유용하기 때문이다.  생존이 보장되는한 고통은 인류에게 교훈을 남겼고, 그에 따른 학습을 통해 더 생존에 적합한 개체로 성장해 왔다.

개인적으로 군대문화를 무척 싫어하고, 일부 경험은 다시는 떠올리고 싶지 않다. 군대를 다녀와야 사람이 된다는 말은 사회에 일방적으로 순응하는 구성원을 길러내기 위한 ㄱ소리 of ㄱ소리라고 생각한다. 하지만 개인적인 성장의 관점에서 봤을 때 군대를 다녀온 경험의 엄청난 성장의 계기가 되었다

그 경험이 그 전까지의 다른 인생경험이 준 고통과는 비교할 수도 없는 유니크한 '고통'이었기 때문이다. 이러한 고통과 시련을 겪으면서 나에게 정말 중요하고, 무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 코어 밸류들이 무엇인지 알게 되었다. (대한민국 군인들이 군대에 가면 모두 효자에 어머니 바라기가 되는 이유)

군대에 다녀온 이후의 나의 인생을 돌이켜 보면 일정한 정도의 고통에 나를 끊임 없이 노출시키는 과정을 반복하는 것이었던 것 같다. 그렇게 하지 않으면 제대 후 다시 예전의 모습으로 돌아간 수많은 다른 예비역들 처럼, ‘그저그런 시시한’ 사람중 하나가 되는 것이 두려웠던 것 같다.

많은 사람들이 묻는다. 너는 왜 그렇게 굳이 힘들고 바쁘게 사냐고? 어쩌면 나는 스스로 만들어낸 자가 고통 발전 프로그램안에 나를 끊임없이 재등록하면서 좀 더 나은 사람이 되고 싶었던 건 아닐까? 나를 죽이지 못하는 (내가 계획하고, 결정한) 고통은 나를 더 강하게 해줄 뿐이니까.

Why what does not kill me makes me stronger?

If you are looking for success in terms of a realistic view of life, there will always be a better or worse and success or failure. However, if you seek better and more beautiful stories in life, there will be no better or worse nor right or wrong.

No reason to be disappointed or mad as your life does not go as per your plan. There will be no such a concept - unrealistic goals and meaningless actions if your goal is to write beautiful stories.

Sometimes, I try to see myself as a writer or film director of my own life, then, all the bad things that happened to me are just challenges given to the main character, so that I can grow. Any mistake or unexpected thing is just another fun episode.

Without any challenge, villain, or accident, my life will be just a boring story that no one wants to read. Perhaps, we all are episode collectors to write our own unique stories. Each occasion itself does not mean much, but we will decide what it will mean as a writer/director.

So, let's enjoy the magic of unplanned coincidence. Serendipity!


How to change your life by viewing it as an artist's view

1.통각이라 불리는, 통증을 느끼는 감각은 인간이 생존하기 위해 반드시 필요하다 -주변에 존재하는 위험을 알 수 있는 간단하고 효과적인 방법. 뜨거운 물에 움찔하고 깨진 유리를 피해 발을 내딛고 접질린 발목을 편안히 이완시키는 것 같이 통증은 우리에게 위험에 적절히 반응하도록 신호를 보낸다


2.고등생물 종들은 통증을 처리하는 신경계를 가지고 있다. 동물에게 다쳤는지 물어볼 수 없다. 하지만 조류와 포유류도 인간처럼 고통에 몸부림치고 신음하고 비명을 지른다. 인간과 마찬가지로 위험한 자극에 노출되면 혈압 상승, 동공 확장, 땀 분비, 심장 박동 증가등을 경험한다.


3.통각은 복잡한 유기체에게 중요한 생존 도구이다. 선천성 무통각증과 같은 희귀 질환을 가지고 태어난 아이들은 25세를 넘기기 어렵다. 이들은 아무 느낌없이 뼈가 부러지거나 팔에 화상을 입어도 자신이 다쳤다는 것을 스스로 인지하지 못한다.

4.사실 통증은 두뇌 작용에 의한 것이다. 뇌의 여러 영역이 서로 네트워크로 연결되어 있어 때대로 ‘통증 매트릭스’를 형성한다. 흥미롭게도 통각은 육체적 통증과 감정적 통증의 차이를 구별하지 않는다. 팔이 부러졌을 때나 마음이 무너졌을 때 동일하게 반응한다.

5.통각은 전방대상피질이라는 뇌영역을 활성화시켜 고통의 느낌을 유발한다. 다른 사람에게 감정이입을 잘하는 사람들은 전방대상피질이 더 활성화 되어 있다. 이런 사람들은 다른 사람들의 통증을 실제로 느낄 수도 있다.

6.인간의 태아는 29주에 통증을 느낄 수 있는 신경회로가 생겨서 임신 말기에 발달한다.

7.팔다리를 절단한 사람들은 없어진 팔다리에 통증을 느끼는 환상지통을 종종 호소한다. 팔다리가 없는데도 쑤시듯이 아픈 강렬한 통증을 경험하는 것이다. 이것은 통증이 부분적으로는 뇌에서 만들어진다는 것을 보여준 첫번째 증거이다.

8.생존과 성장에 통증이 필수 불가결한 요소라면, 어떻게 하면 통증을 피하면서 사는 것을 궁리하는 것이 아니라, 어떤 통증을 통해 어떻게 성장할 것인가를 고민하고, 그 통증을 잘 처리하는 뇌(Mind)를 훈련하는 것이 현명한 방법이다.

9.다른 사람에게 감정이입을 잘하는 사람들이 전방대상피질의 활성화와 관련이 있다면, 감정이입을 일종의 능력으로 바라보고 사람을 판단할 것이 아니라, 그냥 사람간의 생물학적 차이로 이해하고, 훈련해 나가면 될 것이다.

<Everything Everywhere All At Once> First saw the title, I thought what kind of title is this? But this is just perfect tile! So accurate! t got comedy, actions, SF, gore and even family. It is literally EVERYTHING you expect from a film all at once! Must watch! 

Honestly, I thought this is another 'I'm so hip and film genius!! Looking at my Camera movement! Do I cool?" Kind of movie. But I was completely wrong. This is so original but it's also full of references and influences. Visually magnificent, but got great storyline. Great work!

When I watch something great original, I feel like to watch the move instantly right after watching the movie. It happens to only Dark Knight, Mad Max: Fury road and Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. Adding  more. And this one is probably the most indie budget film among them.

I can easily give the title of 'the most original film I watched in decade' Just can't stop thinking about this film. Multiverse concept has become kinda cliche, but the way this movie uses multiverse is so smart and does so make sense to the storytelling.

Big kudos to Daniels. True genius, real talent! It's still incredible how this size of indie team can make such a great(Not only storytelling but also visual effect wise) film. Just watching their behind the scenes and making film are so inspirational. https://youtu.be/A7DgDpURLRY

Hollywood Failed Michelle Yeoh For Decades, but this movie made it. She has proven how talented actress she is and she was everything and everywhere all at once in this film. Her best work ever indeed!
