@BoredApeYC just dropped details on the Heavy Metal (HV-MTL) collection.  Roll through this overview thread and let me know if you Rock with these little Mechs 🎸🤘 (...see what I did there?)


Mech Types, which will spawn from &/or utilize the HV-MTL power sources, were revealed today. There are 8 Types (same as power sources).  At first glance, I wasn't blown away but after seeing more (dynamic in nature & significant variation based on traits), I'm a big fan now

HV-MTL is a Mech that is a Dynamic NFT which will evolve (grow and gain traits) based on decisions and actions by the holder. "Skills, personality and roles" gives hints that we will be interacting and using these Mechs in a game or something close to it.


The interactive and Dynamic aspect of this collection is the most exciting aspect for me.  RPGs and decision based, interactive video games have always had a special place in my heart; they are like movies or shows....but you get to influence and control the story.

Below is a blueprint overview of the journey thus far and things to come for the Mechs.  Jimmy the Monkey swallowed the key and Dookey Dash was needed to retrieve it.  Dookey Dash was brought back to earn companions in Toad Mode. Then Power sources were given based on rank.


(cont'd) Today Evo 1 Mechs were revealed. The first ? will likely be "Mini Game Set 1" before we get to evolve our Mechs to Evo2 (the pic of the medium-sized Mech). Then there will be another minigame (or combining with BAKC) before Evo3.


(cont'd) Lastly, a great battle between MechaDogs and MechaMonkeys (MDvMM) will occur.  Speculation: My guess is that the Evo3 choice between a minigame and combining with a BAKC will be a choice on which side of the battle you want to be on....

There will be a "HV-MTL Forge".  Seemingly a gamified hub of sorts were users will be able to build and customize a workshop that will influence the evolution of their mechs.  There will also be competition among the community (leaderboard), special abilities to unlock & more

In the span of a week, @yugalabs has dropped further details on two projects (Mara and HV-MTL) that share two, large overarching themes that I am personally a huge fan of...dynamic NFTs and gaming. Both Mara and HV-MTL will be dynamic VIA related games. What are you thoughts?

Overview of Bored Ape Heavy Metal Collection and Mech Types

WTF is a Koda(mara)?

Legends of Mara explained & broken down

TLDR: I believe Legends of Mara will be persistent, 2D strategy game (ala Clash of Clans) where will be collecting resources, attacking others & defending our Otherdeeds. The actions will be handled by out Koda/mara

Each Otherdeed will be able to claim a vessel (think of these as Mara Eggs lol) in the coming weeks.  There are 3 types of vessels and each type impacts what your Mara will be able to do. Enchant/power up, farm fragments or hunt/defend.

Mara are little Koda sprite-like creatures that share the color and ability of the vessel that they emerge from.


Mara can evolve into Kodamara if they ingest a seasonal catalyst.

The "Who's that Pokémon?!!!" vibes are unmistakable lol. Also, the catalyst sounds like the evolutionary stones from Pokémon needed to evolve certain Pokémon like Eevee.


So pretty much you'll get a vessel which will be come a Mara which you will evolve into a Kodamara.  These K'mara's will either boost, farm or defend your deed.

Ans WTF is Koda? A Koda is a much more powerful version of a K'mara that can do all three tasks (but not at once).

Catalysts are seasonal and are based on the Otherside Odiac.  Each constellation is one of the creature type artifacts found on some otherdeeds.  Your Mara will take a trait from the creature it gets a catalyst from.  Some rare, hybrid catalysts will provide traits from 2.


Mara can ingest fragments from the various sediments and their traits are affected by what type they ingest.  Fragments have to be farmed by Kodas are farmer Kodamaras that are attached to the land to farm. (Finally some clarity/utility for deed traits)


In summary, I believe we are going to get an Otherdeed/Koda based Clash of Clans type of game.  The game will likely include in-game Ape purchases for boosts with some degree to pay to win. I don't love that part of it but mostly b/c I can see myself  dumping $$ if its fun lol

I think overall, if well executed, this is a pretty genius move that adds another Ape sink, & keeps the community engaged and happy with a intermediate game/use of otherdeeds (because full on Otherside will take a long time to materialize). @CryptoGarga @BoredApeYC @yugalabs

The Summoning (Feb. 15): Sewer Pass Holders with a valid score will receive Power Source based on their highest score.  Gary the Dog Prophet is doing the summoning.  1st place receives the Key/Ultimate Power Source.

Trip (into the future…or maybe the Otherside; Late Feb.): “We’ve got more toad licking to do”.  I believe we will lick a toad to go on a similar “trip” to Gary.  We will get a glimpse into the future that includes mechs and the battle to come…

Sidenote: Gary’s sketch contains a lot of cryptic clues and pieces of info.  One such is the chemical structure of Bufotenin in the top right corner of the sheet. Bufotenin is a DMT derivative that is found on the skin of some toads…

Shortly after our “trip”, mech types will be revealed. The different type of mechs can potentially be random reveals, based on power source level or maybe based on tier of original sewer pass (power source is based on score but mech type doesnt necessarily have to be)

Reveal (Early Apr):  Power sources will reveal or maybe evolve into Mech Evo1. A tiny mech companion that has an even smaller creature by it’s side.  These mechs likely have many variations in traits and style (I believe the sketch outlines only one style of winged mech)

Time to Play (May): Minigame set 1 en route to Evo2 looks like it could be part of the Play to Earn invasion game teased in the deck (if not, this might be a pure minigame with the P2E Invasion game dropping later in the year maybe Otherside related)

Don’t have locked clues yet but after Evo2, we will eventually have another minigame OR a combining activation with a BAKC to get Evo3.  With the name Meca Dog vs. Mecha Monkey, I wonder if our Evo3 choice will be us choosing a “side” in the battle…

Portals & placeholders & incubators, oh my! 🔥🚀

@RTFKT kicked off it’s long awaited Pod burning last week.  Here’s everything we know, what we don’t know and my guesses/speculation to fill in the gaps 🧵. Sorry in advance for the length....(lol) @JarlanPerez @benitopagotto

Brief History: Last year, each clone was air dropped 1 space pod & eventually each space pod holder was airdropped one loot pod. Each acted as an @oncyber space that you could decorate/curate with nfts.

With several lore-centric videos and little bit of questing (partially solved by yours truly; lil’ humble brag 😌), pod burning was unveiled.

Burn Mechanics: Simply put, OG Space Pods & Loot Pods were automatically upgraded into ships with higher quality textures in @oncyber. Further, you could burn 2 of each pod to receive an ExoPod (new item; Big Boy) or burn 20 of each Pod for a LuxPod (new item; Luxury StarFox)

Attributes: Each of the 4 Pods are compared in the below Chart. Let’s talk through some of the attributes listed:
* I’ll skip past weight, main/secondary drive.
* Max Speed: Exo & Lux Pods are faster than base pods by 50% & 100%, respectively


Attributes cont’d:
* Max Speed is likely just a lore stat but more speculatively, it could potentially be a usable stat in the future that relates to something like travel time (to a location or maybe as a part of a staking/questing mechanic). Faster ship = faster missions etc

* Placeholders: The markers where you can place NFTs/3d objects within the interior of your Pod's @oncyber space.  This attribute is solely related to @oncyber usage of your Pod's interior.

* Portals: Doors within a Pod that can be made into a "portal" that connects you to another @oncyber space (e.g. a door that you can walk into to go directly into another one of your pods or a friend's space). Like placeholders this is solely related to @oncyber usage

* Hibernation Capsule: A new device that is located within the Lootpod, Exopod and Luxpod.  No official word on this object but from name and looks, it's a hibernation chamber used by passengers/clones for induced rest for lengthy space travel.

Hibernation Capsules have been used many times across many forms of media but the first thing that comes to mind is a film that has been used directly multiple times by @RTFKT already (notably with the OG MNLTH), 2001: A Space Odyssey. Let's hope HAL doesn't kill us tho...

* Egg Incubator: A new device that is located within the Spacepod, Exopod & Luxpod. Similar to the Hibernation Capsule, there is no official word on this object but its pretty safe to assume we will have to put our Animus Egg/s within the incubator in order to hatch.

Saved the best/most intriguing for last......Incubation/Hibernation Speeds.  For starters, I want to say that there is actually a possibility that these two stats/attributes are ONLY part of lore and have ZERO functionality to holders. (High chance based on the below...)


If there is truly no future usage for hibernation/incubation speed for the different Pods, I think that would be a misstep on par with hastily & prematurely advertising a bunch of web3 influencers as investors in your latest fund that isn't yet funded (sorry, had to lol)

It should be very obvious that adding these specific items to the Pods and having very specific specs highlighted in overview sheets for the Pods would create a very basic expectation that these are real attributes and are part of the distinction between the types of Pods.

I can see it as a possibility that the usage of hibernation/incubation are not yet fleshed out so @RTFKT is trying to go the "undersell and overdeliver" route. I would appreciate that pivot but I think, as is, there is too much left to uncertainty/confusion on the topic.

With that very clear disclaimer out the way, lets speculate a little... Currently, I do not believe there is a "clear" reason to burn 10x what it takes to get an ExoPod to upgrade all the way to a LuxPod (if rarity & cosmetic is the only difference). Makes more sense to wait


Incubation/hibernation speeds jump out as the only other potential source of value prop to upgrade into a LuxPod. Both speeds are listed as "Maximum" for the LuxPods; faster than any other Pod.  IF there is indeed a staking mechanic for clones and eggs at some point ("IF")...

...then, imo, LuxPods MUST have a advantage in speed and maybe other forms.  Allow me to explain with an example. Target audience for LuxPods are likely whales (who likely have a decent amount clones/eggs).  LuxPods have 1 of each object (incubator/hibernation) while a pair..

...of Space/Loot Pods have 1 of each as well.  So you can either have 20 incubators/hibernations capsules or you can burn all those for 1 of each (Lux).  If the Lux version of those items have no advantage in a world where there is staking, it will take a holder 20x longer...

..to hatch their eggs or stake their clones. That to me absolutely backwards so IF (again "IF" lol) these devices are used for some form of staking in the future, I believe the LuxPods should & would have at least a 20x speed adv. with maybe some other advantages.

Closing thoughts:
* I think the cinematic & questing reveal of the lore & pod burning was done beautifully
* Reception faced heavy headwinds from sentiment stemming from MNLTH2 reveal & past pod burn delays.  Will take a couple flawless moments and announcements to gain...


...positive momentum and broad trust back to optimum levels (keep it up).
* Indefinite window to burn (good thing) & the lack of a "clear" reason to burn for larger upgrades has slowed burning and action imo
* Black/white clarity on if there is a future use for incubation...

...and hibernation objects & speeds would likely have more people move to burn for upgrades.

* Ideas for increased excitement and burning action:
A. Leave OG pods to be burnt by holder for upgrade
B. Upon upgrade, give space/loot pods a trait related to exterior color/skin (rarity; degens rejoice & gives a clear drive to burn/reveal).

C. Can give the same type of trait to burned Exo/LuxPods.  Could be a simple common to epic/legendary color that DOES NOT impact any gamification mechanics.
D. Be more black & white on potential hibernation/incubation mechanics (i.e. if there any or not in the future)

Pod Burning 🧵

Didnt want to make a thread about about @BoredApeYC Dookey Dash until I cracked the top 1,000 on the leaderboard. Only day 2, less boost than like 6,000 others, but I made it
Quick list of some of the things that are impressive, areas of improvements, concerns & some tips 🧵

Impressive/Pros:
* Simple game and basic concept but highly impressive in the infancy realm of “web3 gaming”
* Skill-based mint is a interesting concept that gives the game meaning and brings out competitive juices @yugalabs @GordonGoner


* Simple nature & competitive aspect make it highly addictive to play lol

* Tier pass system seems very thought out. Gives additional benefit based on holdings.  Allows holders to sell and allows non-holders to join in. Fairly balanced benefits of higher tiers (not broken)


*Other than the site going down a couple of times on day 1, very smooth experience, gameplay & interface

* Integration & use case for Ape coin is impressive. From a business side, they really nailed making a reason to use ape coin as a micro transaction (maybe too good 😅)

Areas of improvement:
* Ape coin transacting could be improved.  Gas on every power up purchase is really terrible (essentially 20% tax).  Fix: allow power ups to be purchased in desired quantity & be used at will from inventory.

* Power-up purchase UI is a little wonky. After confirming purchase, you sign a MetaMask transaction but after it goes back with the original confirmation screen still up (stays here for 10-30 secs until the transaction is confirmed). Many have likely paid gas twice for this

* Feels bad that power up timer is always running.  10 minutes goes by quick and even quicker when you have 10-30 seconds of screens after every death before another run starts. Fix: power up timing only moves during a run.

* Power-up feels too needed/OP (more firepower than 1 tier up) and pricing feels heavy on top of that.  In web2 gaming  terms, you’re essentially buying a DLC-pack for a 6/7 min. in-game boost 🥴

Concerns:
* Imo, all the positives massively outweigh the concerns (mostly due to the early nature of the accomplishments being more impressive than any negatives) but the main concern would be the potential for “web3 gaming” to head down a path of pay2win mobile games.

* This (just the power-up) doesn’t feel anywhere near as terribly toxic and rigged as pay2win mobile games but I can see a world where this success can be a slippery slope for games to head down that route (b/c there is a lot of $ to be made from microtransactions)

Advanced Tips (you made it this far so here are some tips):
* Always look as far down the screen as possible
* Plan the optimal route far before you have to make a move
* Learn to snap mouse to pick up all items when things are fairly safe


* Know when to not risk your life for an item
* Your senses/reactions should be most heightened as you boost through wood planks (be ready to dodge)
* Try to “look through” wood blanks to see what area looks safe or if there is a fan (hard)


* Boost through heavy debris if it is near obstacles like planks or fans
* Warm-up some before committing any power-ups
* Take breaks and maybe set up punishments like push ups or squats for failed runs

Wanted to drop some tips, notes and recommendations for the Web3 peeps that will descend upon Miami for the first time next week for Art Basel 🧵

Areas:

* South Beach: Beaches, fast cars, skin, nightlife. This is what everyone envisions Miami to be. Main location of traditional/web2 Art Basel.

* Downtown Miami: More city-style entertainment (no beach). Location of “The Gateway” event (@RTFKT & others)

Areas cont'd:

* Brickell: Adjacent (south) of Downtown. Similar but a bit newer and the land of young professionals.

* Wynwood: Hip, art/graffiti walls, cool restaurants/bars


Transportation:

This isn’t New York, public transport is lacking. Uber/Lyft is usually the best option to get around w/o a car. Bridge between South Beach & DT will be congested throughout the week. Brightline/train can be used to go directly to Fort Lauderdale, if desired.


Safety: Nothing to really worry about but, as always, stay wary of your surroundings. Try not to aimless walk for blocks; nice areas can turn sketchy in a couple of blocks. Groups > alone at night.

* LIV: THE Miami club. Ticketed/VIP tables. Chainsmokers, Black Coffee,others

* Story: Club; Ticketed/tables. Deadmau5, others

* Nikki Beach (pic): Iconic beach club. Daybed=VIP table

Downtown/Brickell:

* E11EVEN: Club. Ticketed/VIP tables. Travis Scott, 50 cent, others

* Club Space: EDM all nighters. Ticketed

I'm going to go all Quentin Tarantino on you all and start off with the ending of the video first. The end of the video quickly flickers through the names of the upcoming 3 Chapters of Lore: Incubation (Project Animus), Wandersmith (side quest) and Exodus (Pod burning).

The video begins with a loading screen; I've translated the message to be more clear. I've also posted some helpful definitions below.  Progenitor is a key word & I believe, being an "ancestor", that it is the Predecessor to Clones

The Progenitor could be the blue haired female Clone seen in the Animus teaser and previously elsewhere.  It could also represent the founders (as the 3 extraterrestrials that founded CloneX Corp) or an object/AI or hivemind that represents pre-Clone human consciousness.

The main highlight of the story mode video is the star map within the Draco Constellation.  The map contains stars (bright white objects), orbit patterns (drawn circles), a planet, 7 mysterious blue glowing orbs (very distinct from the stars) and some writing.

For a little background the Draco constellation is actually a real constellation and not just a made up set of stars that Soulja Boy was probably the first rapper to visit.

Here is the map with the text made clearer.  I'll touch on each in the following tweets.

Orbitar is:
* A planet in the Draco Constellation (in RTFKT Lore)
* The home of the 3 founders of CloneX Corp
* An actual candidate extrasolar planet in the actual Draco constellation
*The location of the CloneX Research lab (where we got a look at our Animus friends & eggs)

I believe that Project Animus (the eggs/creatures) is the "latest creation" mentioned here and threat levels are high because someone may want to steal and/or destroy such a powerful creation (more on this later)...

"Draco_42" in RTFKT lore represents "42 Draconis"; the actual "5th magnitude K-type Giant star" in the actual Draco constellation which "42 Draconis b" aka Orbitar orbits.  A year here is 479 days which might explain some project delays that have occurred in the past lol

Side Fun Fact: The Draco Constellation also has ties back to Greek Mythology which was a very common and present theme during the OG MNLTH quest.

SW of Orbitar we find a warning of a "Planet Killer".  Threat levels on Orbitar are high for good reason & this bad mamajama is reason #1.  I expect this Planet Killer is en route to steal or destroy Project Animus (or the "latest creation") & maybe destroy the whole planet

The below was the message in the latest teaser video today. A lot of these terms should start to look familiar (Artisan Network, The Progenitor & Wandersmith). I believe the Wandersmith (new character) is using the Artisan Network to warn The Progentitor (Clone Ancestor)...

..that "they" (The Planet Killer/s) have located Orbitar & it's inhabitants and is en route to destroy/disrupt Project Animus and potentially destroy Orbitar completely.
Misc:
* Not sure what the "U" means
* Wandersmith is an unkown at this point but its a Clone friendly...

..protagonist that is the name of Chapter 2 of this pack of Lore.  We'll find out more shortly but from name (& to have the knowledge to send the above warning message) the Wandersmith may be some portal/space hopping being (maker/forger of "wander"ing).

"Omni portals" remind me of the doors upstairs in the LootPods as it was hinted that they can become "portals" to the Pods of others.  These Portals can also potentially act as "fast travel" to other worlds.  Also, fast travel may be needed in an "Exodus" (Chapter 3).

Unknown area.  Searching the area for Artisan signals and the scout team not yet being deployed makes it clear that this is an unexplored/unknown area that might have valuable resources and "RTFKTs" (teehee). Another potential location to go before an "Exodus"...

Bonus: These are the only 2 clones in the official RTFKT wallet. One is a star of the Project Animus teaser & the other is a star in his own right. LBJ being the only other Clone in the wallet and the delay of any news/announcement around it since I found it (lol) gives....

...me the thought that there's a possibility that the King himself may be a protagonist in the CloneX Lore (eat your heart out Space Jam).  Might not be the case and the silence could be for a hundred different reasons but this is a new, potential reason that comes to mind.

In Summary: We are about to start Chapter 2 out of 3 for this Lore pack.

Chapter 2 (The Wandersmith): Looks to kick off with a side quest this week. The Progenitor (Clone Ancestor/Predecessor) received a warning message from the Wandersmith that The Planet Killer/s have found us & are incoming; likely to destroy/disrupt Project Animus & Orbitar

Chapter 3 (Exodus): This will involve pod burning & now things start to make sense.  Space pods fit now that we have a clear setting in...space lol.  Burning pods/homes in an "Exodus" makes sense since it is a mass departure leaving or "burning" our old homes for new ones..

*Warning Potential Spoilers* (if my hunches have any clue or grasp on reality that is lol):  With a Powerful Project completed & a Planet Killer incoming, I believe we are in the pre-Clone Lore atm.  The 3 Clone X Corp founders "came from" the planet Orbitar to eventually..

...transfer all human consciousness into advanced clone forms.  They "came from" the planet Orbitar because Orbitar was destroyed or at least was under such threat that they had to pack up all the eggs, any resources & artefacts that they could before burning their pods...

...in "The Exodus" to escape (maybe with the use of an Omni Portal or two).

1/8 Yesterday, a chat about Nike athletes came up & I remembered there was a clone with a crown in RTFKT's wallet that I mentioned could be fitting for LeBron back in July when Serena got her clone. Little did I know, the clone would now have new 1/1's traits fit for a King.


2/8 After posting that message and noticing the traits, I went back to OS to take a better look. I noticed that the Details had a "Last Updated" entry that no other clone has; it was "32 minutes ago" when I first noticed it. An hour later the news was out & spreading all over lol

3/8 On to the Clone.  This has been covered: traits updated to 1/1 LBJ Beard & Chosen1 CRWN, Crown is purple & gold (Lakers colors) and has "Chosen1" engraved on it.  In short, it's definitely Lebron. 

4/8 The timing of this discovery comes when there is a big event happening at Nike HQ. 5/8 To be clear this is NOT an RTFKT specific event and no one other than Lebron has any real ties to RTFKT so there's no evidence at all to jump to conclusions about any other athletes or Nike celebs yet. Also, there is only one other clone in the RTFKT wallet (blue pigtails).

6/8 A little more smoke.  Lebron recently filed for several trademarks surrounding virtual footwear, clothing and courts.

7/8 It will be interesting what this means. Will this be closer to the typical "celebrity X gets NFT Y, tweets once & goes pretty silent"? Or will it be something much more involved & larger than just a giveaway to a celeb? With the changing of metadata, I lean toward the latter

8/8 Not going to do a deep dive on this topic (would need it's own thread tbh) but didn't want to leave it out completely. There is also discussion on feelings toward the one-off metadata change in regards to decentralization. I've seen a lot of fair commentary on both sides.

For those who missed the interview on @rugradio with @farokh and the @RTFKT team (@benitopagotto, @clegfx & @Zaptio).  Wanted to summarize a couple of the notable moments & some ever delicious alpha and breadcrumbs. The team doesn't speak as a group often so this was nice...🧵

1/9 "Move to Earn" mechanic for kicks: "Something crazy" is being cooked up (tech in works/evolving for 8 years). Something is coming "quite soon actually".  My take: Strong assumption this is for cryptokicks; M2E was mentioned in patent, etc.  Very interesting & exciting imo   


2/9 Collabs: Benoit is most excited about upcoming "crazy collabs to be announced with coolest/best brands in the world".  Mentioned it was several; no specific timing.  Excited for the physical forging and the story telling with these collabs. Assumed collabs beyond Byredo.

3/9 MNLTH 2: Quest is starting "very soon". "Very special." "Mechanics included for something much bigger are a part of the quest." "Bigger, shorter and better (than MNLTH1 Quest)". "Game changing content inside the MNLTH2." My Take: Can't wait! 

4/9 Nike Athletes: When asked if any Nike Athlete activations or collabs are coming (like @serenawilliams obtaining a Clone recently): "Just wait a couple of weeks and everything will come to the surface" My take: Famous athletes and Nike/celebrity leveraging is more than welcome

5/9 Any upcoming Clone Events like NYC: Event likely in Early 2023 in Korea. Was supposed to be end of year 2022 but delayed. Targeted not to be a party like NYC but more of "an experience".  My Take:  Great idea.  Sounds similar to what @AzukiOfficial did in NYC this year.

6/9 Team's interest in making a game: @benitopagotto paraphrased: We love & are interested in things referenced (gaming, physical/digital, etc.) & we always want to work on things we love and are interested in. Cheeky response; essentially yes but "3-4 years to build a good game"

7/9 Misc.:
* Kanye is dream collab for team (has been for a while)
* Working on a website for a couple of free to use clone files available to all (not for commercial use purposes)
* ~35 full-time team at RTFKT (a lot of devs and 3D artists)

A long ass🧵 lol...

TLDR: Raffle style >>> FCFS for big, established projects "mints".

2/ In Summary, the drop was delayed an hour & eventually led to prolonged queues on the website & crashing services stemming from a overload of a third-party inventory service on the site (weak link). Minting was only reliably executed via a manual mint from contract.

3/ FFCFS: F First Come, First Serve.  There were rumblings & complaints around the upcoming hoodie drop.  The amount of the drop, being a mint vs an air drop, inclusion of cryptokicks in the process, not being guaranteed one as a clone holder, etc.  All points of discussion but..

4/ ..the ONLY issue I personally had confusion & an absolute issue over was the drop being First Come, First Serve.  Before getting into the numerous issues & dangers of FCFS, I would like to try and play devil's advocate & try to think of the reasons why FCFS might be chosen.

5/ Reasons for FCFS:
1. It's easy(er) to implement & is the natural/historical web2 way to let things play out for mints
Note: FCFS can still have a place, specifically for newer projects that are less hyped & are not guaranteed to be sold out or at least not have extreme demand 

6/
2. For hype, scarcity & fomo that (potentially) build demand & excitement for a project/drop.
Note: Sounds off putting when typed out but most of your favorite brands use tactics around this idea.  But there is more investment & thus entitlement (justified in moderation)...

7/ & expectations when holders have their $ sitting in a project.  The "potential" for hype, etc is understandable to a degree but it should be weighed against the potential for a larger negative outcome if anything goes awry. Imo, the cons>pros for established/blue chip projects

3. For @RTFKT specifically, I came to the random idea that maybe they were trying to flex a solution & a conquering of the traditional issues of FCFS in the web2 (& 3) worlds.  This is probably not the case but in any situation, it's still a scenario where cons >>> pros imo

9/ Solution?  It's obvious to many & doesn't require more technical/dev muscle. Move away from FCFS & stick with a premint/raffle style system. Period. All of the cons of FCFS (stress, heavy reliance on sites/3rd parties, time sink of holders, gas wars, unfairness/botting) are..

10/ ..eradicated or at least greatly mitigated with a raffle style.  This can be a simple raffle, actual premint site, creation of own premint competitor onsite, a random airdrop of a mint pass (dics lol) to "winners", etc. For the hoodie, you could even address the...

11/..clone vs kick complaint that some had, if you choose to do so.  E.G. 5,555 hoodies raffled to clones & 3,333 raffled to kick holders.  In that scenario, clones have more priority, kicks are included & holders of both double their odds (#s could be played with but you get it)

12/ Whatever the methodology.  Having people know they are able to mint ahead of time and giving all minters a window (8-48 hours) where the can mint on their schedule with no stress is the key & should be the #1 goal.  

13/ Why is there any (good) reason to add an ungodly amount of stress to holders & founders, have holders drop their life for a multi-hour window of time for a "chance" & more negatives? All of this stress, rush & fomo ONLY lead to negative feelings & opportunity for scams. 

14/ Devil's advocate:  "But premint/raffles are boring & dull 😩".  While I think the pros>>cons, I can see validity to this sentiment (in a vacuum). 

Random idea to spice up raffle style mints:
1. Air drop an unrevealed item to all holders.  Upon reveal, winners will get..

15/...a "mint pass" item that will allow them to mint during a defined time window. Those who do not win, will get nothing/a pile of sand lol....or better, "losers" can get a little poap to at least get "Something".  

Further "Fairness" AND gamification could be applied if....

16/...the item/poap received by those who did not win a mint pass, could somehow be used or burned in future raffles for "slightly" increased odds of winning.  This might be hard to implement technically but would be a very cool/gamified balancing tool. This idea can go many..

17/..directions. Holders can sell their unrevealed "ticket" if they don't have interest in a certain drop or if they think luck sucks & they prefer a little more eth to buy secondary for certain. The "good luck" poap could be beacon of hope for holders to look forward to future..

18/..drops and hold on.  Or they could choose to sell their poap for a tiny bit of liquidity.  People can decide to buy up poaps to nearly guarantee a raffle win (poap stacking could be capped, if wanted, though).  This all is probably technical difficult but just an example..

19/..how there is plenty of room for creativity & innovation to make safe/stress-free raffle style mints more engaging, fun and even gamified (if that is the con).  

20/ @yugalabs taught us the $150M lesson that FCFS is a HORRIBLE idea, specifically for hyped drops of established projects.  @yugalabs could've & should've let everyone have 1 guaranteed land mint with a 48 hour window to mint, with the remaining land raffled off.  

21/ Poof zero gas war, $150M saved, everyone happy or at least not pissed or emotionally broken, no wasted hours of time (I personally spent several hours in a corner of a vegas casino during mint smh #degenlife lol).  It's that simple and that's what makes it sting more.


Bonus @RTFKT feedback: Communication is key.  The earlier and sooner the better.  Mystery around future stuff is cool & can have an allure but with impending drops, there is no reason to withhold so much information until the last minute.  Many people skip out on work/..

..responsibilities to participate in mints.  At least give the degens an ample heads up (days/week) of dates for announced mints so we can play out our degen process.  Hopefully, this is a non-issue going forward b/c we won't be seeing FCFS for a long time.

Aside from communication (key), have you done or considered running ideas past a select group of analysts/community members to stress test ideas and processes every now and then? Like real time market research/feedback from an informed group.

This wouldn't require expanding the team & it can be limited to generic ideas, processes & occasional feedback versus highly confidential drop information (understand issues & fear around opening that risk up).  If you are open to this idea, I, very modestly, would like to say...

On the bright side:
1. Kudos the community banding together to mint from contract
2. Respect to the team for immediately taking full responsibility and owning up to the failure (whether a 3rd-party was to blame or not)
3. Luckily this wasn't a high priced (relatively speaking).. 

...or peak project type mint (land or something project changing or worth several eth)
4. The team (& hopefully larger market) can learn from this blip & we can all largely avoid FCFS issues going forward. @byredo collab should be rethought and tweaked from FCFS asap 🙏

Last of my ramblings:  "Just airdrop it" isn't a real, long term solution imo.  Airdrops are nice and ideal for holders (free.99) but realistically ALL major projects will have some level of mints mixed in with airdrops.  So we need to address what to do for future "mints". FIN.
