During the Iranian Revolution, #ProgressiveOrganizations played an important role. These groups shared a commitment to the armed conflict. The best group, the People’s Mujahedin of Iran, was founded as a leftist. ++
While it is true that Islamists managed by Khomeini gradually and cruelly eliminated their rivals, the idea that the 1979 revolution depicted democratic or generous aspirations is not supported by the evidence. ++
The radical government grasped a referendum in March 1979, wanting to know whether the electorate “agreed” or “no” on whether they cherished an “Islamic Republic.” The “yes” vote was achieved overwhelmingly. ++
This poll, however, took place in the middle of an atmosphere of chaos—with erstwhile PM Shapour Bakhtiar in hiding—and repression, which included Baháʼís being addressed, and officials of the Pahlavi management being executed following in-position or time-sham trials. ++
Here are a few of the liberal organizations that supported the Iranian Revolution in 1979: Tudeh Party of Iran: This was a supporting Soviet party. Organization of Iranian People’s Fedai Guerrillas (OIPFG): This was a supply organization. ++
Iranian People’s Fedai Guerrillas (IPFG): This was a breakaway-equipped organization from the OIPFG. Feda’i: This was a guerrilla organization. Pro-Tudeh Feda’i Munsh’eb: This was a bushfighter organization. Islamic Mujahedin: This was a guerrilla organization. ++
Organization of Struggle for the Emancipation of Common People: This was a guerrilla organization. The Socialist Workers’ Party of Iran: This body fielded candidates for elections. These organizations played an important role in the rebellion. ++
4 guerrilla organizations—the Feda’i, the supporting Tudeh Feda’i Munsh’eb, Islamic Mujahedin, & Organisation of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working Class—are pronounced to have “delivered the administration its finishing blow" in the street fighting of Feb 9–11, 1979.
