I am closely following the story of Musk and Twitter, and since the very beginning of it, trying to understand Musk’s reasons for it.
While initially, it looked like a whim of an eccentric billionaire genius — including the refusal to close the deal — more recent developments made me look deeper.
So, I found some interesting timing coincidences.
— March 2022: The United States declared its support of Ukraine at war with Russia; Biden seemed to have a strong position because he predicted the invasion; Elon Musk started to buy Twitter shares and eventually proposed to buy the whole company.
— April 2022: War in Ukraine stalled, first shocks faded. At the beginning of the recession, people started to shift their attention to local problems. Biden's administration's position seemed weak; Musk tried to avoid the purchase of Twitter.
— Sep. 2022: Biden gained support managing recession; Ukrainian forces launched a successful counter-offensive, showing the result of support measures; midterms results became less predictable; Musk returned to the deal even though it seems to be overpriced now.
— November 2022: Musk unbanned Trump, Supreme Court allows release of Trump’s tax returns, Musk started to release Twitter Files.
I don’t know how credible @mtaibbi is. Still, some details of his bio fit very well in my conspiracy theory — one year of study at Leningrad State Polytechnic Institute in the 1990s, then ten years as a freelance journalist in Moscow.
Also, when Taibbi mentioned “whirlwind 96 hours”, it seems he was invited to “investigate” right after @karaswisher interview with @yoyoel where Yoel explains exactly the case of the NYPost article on H.Biden's laptop. Another timing coincidence?
