Converted and unconverted Pariah : An exaggeration but answering million questions "Pariah" originates from the Pariah caste in southern India, initially describing someone of low caste and later, an outcast. This concept is humorously depicted by renowned Indian painter Mahadev Vishvanath Dhurandhar (1867-1944) in a card from around 1905. The card shows a "converted" pariah in a suit and an "unconverted" one without, highlighting their outsider status in society. V. Dhurandhar c. 1905
