400 years ago pagans celebrated Marking the Arrival of Spring during 25th March to 31st March
However in 1564, King Charles IX issued an edict that rescheduled New Year's Day to January 1st. Those persisting in observing the old year's day were mocked as "fools" and became the targets of jokes and pranks.
