Do you know that cowry shells was minted by divers , much like today's miners create #Cryptocurrency. However, they were outlawed in 1940. Today, a single string might fetch about $120. During the Great Depression, when American banks shut down, cash-strapped communities used cowry shell as community currency. In 1933, Leiter’s Pharmacy in Pismo Beach, California, offered a clamshell in exchange, which people signed as it passed hands and swapped back for cash once it was accessible again.
