Tragic Echoes of Pahalgam

I've never encountered a more shameless and nonsensical defense of genocide than Mr. Douglas's. He argues that the brutal murder of 30,000 Sikhs and the forced displacement of over a million in just three days across 119 Indian cities by Indian state and society shouldn't be labeled a genocide. 

He argues it should be labeled riots, claiming the killing wasn’t systemic or prolonged. He also insists the definition of genocide is unclear and disputed. Clearly, he hasn't read enough to realize the UN hosted an entire convention to define genocide—a definition accepted by all UN member countries.


Mr. Douglas has also skillfully cherry-picked his facts, conveniently omitting the grim truth: the Indian state isn't just accused of the 1984 Sikh massacre but also of the illegal detention and extrajudicial killing of over 200,000 Sikhs from 1984 to 1995—a stark reality documented by UNHCR and Amnesty International reports. https://data.ensaaf.org/

Indian States murder and persecution of Sikhs in 1984 and also after that meets every single criteria laid out for a genocide as per UN convention. 

If he's still doubtful, he should dive into US congressional records. India has faced multiple sanctions for the mass murder and persecution of Sikhs.

After reading this if Mr. Douglas still remains unconvinced that the Indian State has been and continues to commit genocide against Sikhs, then perhaps he's not just misinformed or uninformed—he might also be ill raised. Shame
