With more, injuries, Statcast data, and @MLB rule changes, can an almost 10 year old #fantasybaseball book still be relevant? Yes! Here are 4 evergreen components of @LarrySchechter's book "Winning Fantasy Baseball" to help you win your league in 2023? ⚾ 🧠 🧵 👇
1) Time We all have the same amount each day. Acquiring better access and use to time in doing anything depends on what you choose to prioritize. Why bother complaining about not achieving a goal that you aren’t willing to put in the time & effort.
Time (cont'd) Also, work smarter not harder. Putting in the time now to prepare for the long season ahead can reap dividends. 3 preparation keys described in "Winning Fantasy Baseball" ▶️ Projections ▶️ Value Formulas ▶️ In-Season Management Let's dive in more:
▶️ Projections Use projections but don't use them for 100% accuracy. Aim for the best possible prediction of what a player is most likely to produce. Some of my favorite projection systems: • @steamerpro • @ATCProjections • @DerekCarty's BAT & BAT X
▶️ Value Formulas Input projections into a formula to determine dollar values of one player compared to others in order to make better use of draft/FAAB resources. Valuation Methods to Use: • Z-Scores • Standings Gain Points (SGP) • Percentage Value Method (PVM)
▶️ In-Season Management Mentioned this in a previous 🧵 but save time next year by investing and/or setting up in-season tools now to account for news, FAAB, lineup decisions, category goals, etc. twitter.com/FBMindset/status/1583672818192961537
2) Value "It's all about the value and ideally paying as little as possible to get as much value as possible." When you keep your main idea/strategy simple, you do better to avoid distractions & focus on your priorities. Look for deals, and don't complicate it.
3) Balance By maintaining balance in your life and on your fantasy teams, you give yourself opportunities to not only take risks, but also weather the storms we all inevitably face. It may sound boring, but as I often hear on the @PullHitterPod, "boring is beautiful". Agree?
4) Common Sense We all get caught up in the #fantasybaseball group think on the impact of players, matchups, schedules, rule changes, draft strategies, etc. Everybody has an opinion, but so do you. It's important to step back, use some common sense, and trust yourself!
TL/DR; Larry's book "Winning Fantasy Baseball" is a must read, and no better time than now to read or re-read during the early part of the off-season. 4 evergreen components to absorb: 1) Time 2) Value 3) Balance 4) Common Sense winningfantasybaseballthebook.com/
