The last 590 Argentine prisoners, including General Mario Menendez board the MV St Edmund, bound for Puerto Madryn, Argentina, where they will land the next day. The UK declares the Falklands War at an end. Argentina will not do so until 1989.

Meeting of the Overseas Defence South Atlantic dominated by discussions regarding Argentine breaches of international conventions with regard to minelaying.
The advice is to stress Argentine irresponsibility rather than accuse them of a breach.

As July 12 was the cut-off for the South Atlantic Medal, the UK Government now unilaterally declares the Falklands war over. It will take Argentina until 1989 to do the same, and they will still maintain aggressive patrols throughout this time.

The "Penguin News" reports that the "Rangeitera" passenger ship arrived in Stanley on 11th July with 1000 men of the Royal Engineers
The priority task for the Royal Engineers will be the extension of the airstrip to allow RAF Phantoms to operate.

Mine counter measure ships HMS Brecon and HMS Ledbury supported by HMS St. Helena. These Hunt class ships are 700 tons but their hulls are made of glass reinforced plastic. This is to avoid setting off magnetic mines.

Foreign Minister Juan Aguirre Lanari of Argentina said today that Britain's decision to return the 593 remaining war prisoners it had held on the Falkland Islands was a ''positive gesture.''
