RFA Olmeda arrives back at Devonport after 96 continuous days at sea. In this time, she has covered 30,000 miles and supplied 185 ships with no less than 64,000 tons of fuel and diesel oil. One of the unsung heroes.

South American journalist Andres Ortega visits HMS Invincible and has a full & unrestricted tour, reporting in El Pais that, despite repeated Argentine claims to have hit or even sunk her, she is "in perfect condition" and unscathed.

The UK Government still do not know for sure that the Argentines consider the war over, only hints that hostilities have de facto ended. This ambiguity, twinned with the fact that Argentine jets continue to probe defences, leads to 'Operation Monkey'.

Cabinet office memo on the Falklands. Apparently the Mexican Government had the impression that the UK might be willing to reopen discussions with Argentina. That ship had sunk. The Prime Minister stated:
T"There is no question of resuming talks."

This hardline by Thatcher was picked up by the "Penguin News" and this view was clearly popular in Port Stanley.
However "some Falklanders are not sure that a British government will not soon be willing to compromise over sovereignty."

"Penguin News" reports that HMS Glamorgan and SS Canberra both arrived back to the UK on the 11th July. It is noted that Glamorgan was the only ship to have survived a hit from an exocet missile. Canberra is also praised for her role in the conflict.

The US lifted their trade sanctions with Argentina on this day in 1982, leaving the military embargo in place. While the US did give the UK support in 1982, and offered to do more, in other ways they were frustratingly neutral.

Britain appeared today to be a step closer to returning the last 590 Argentine prisoners of the Falkland Islands war after dropping a demand that release be linked to a statement by Buenos Aires declaring the hostilities to be offically over.
