Very interesting Cluely update here, if everything written is to be believed. The most interesting part to me is not that $3800 has been paid to create a new landing page but more the way in which the product is now being presented. #academicintegrity x.com/marcelfrommimic/status/1917697223682580937?s=46&t=35hBzFk8Z1EM2mx14RMC5g
In case you missed previous discussions about Cluely, this was launched recently and heavily marketed around the use case of students cheating using AI in online exams and assessments in an undetectable manner. x.com/drlancaster/status/1914090222817550630?s=46&t=35hBzFk8Z1EM2mx14RMC5g
The most fascinating part of this new landing page design is that the academic misconduct aspects of Cluely have been largely removed. Although quizzes are mentioned, the language does not specifically refer to this as being a cheating tool anymore. This change does not surprise me. I have previously discussed that offering this service in such a blatant way is likely illegal in many jurisdictions.
Is instead having an undetectable window available to help with sales calls a viable alternative? Likely not. If you’re making a sales call, no one is going to be monitoring what processes you have running on your machine in any case. The social media accounts of the team behind clearly still make the original intent behind this system clear. The Cluely team may have slightly more legal protection using this approach, but I don’t believe they have full protection.
