HOW TO GET A JOB IN #Web3
Here are 5 Tips to get that gig from our very own Head of Content, @JaimeZ888. πͺ‘π§΅ππΌ
2/ First: ABOUT ME (@JaimeZ888)
Iβve worked for <10 years in the tradfi space as a credit manager. I also write actively on LinkedIn in regards to finance and career advice.
Aside from investing & trading in #crypto and #NFTs, I have no prior experience in any Web3 company.
3/ TIP #1: NETWORK > NET WORTH
Itβs not always about what you know, itβs who you know.
I got my current stint at @DiamondNFT because I went to the IRL meetup. Being highly introverted, I was scared shitless.
Up to that point I had just been lurking in the discord.
4/ I met the core team and formed connections with other members, some of whom are now IRL friends. Networking helps build trust and people want to work with someone they can trust.
After, I engaged more in discord and one day an opportunity came knocking. I decided to...
5/ TIP #2: TAKE THE INITIATIVE
There was a call for volunteers in the Discord. I signed up and landed this role.
My work as a PM follows the same route. When my tradfi company opened up a new Digital Asset department, I told them to Sign. Me. Up.
6/ I could have gotten rejected but I took my shot.
I was not afraid of failure. I had already been applying at Crypto VCs and Defi companies and had been ghosted several times over.
We often fear when there's nothing to lose and all to gain.
7/ TIP #3: TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS
How does a back-office tradfi worker pivot to Content and Product?
As a credit manager, I composed lengthy analyses of public companies. At @DiamondNFT, I compose tweet analyses of upcoming NFT projects and events. Different topic, same banana.
8/ At my previous work, I was also leading a team of other credit analysts.
Leadership skills are highly valuable as a Product Manager who often has to manage developers, designers, and senior management.
My Web3 knowledge as an NFT degen and Crypto trader then filled the gaps.
9/ There are no wasted skills.
Trading on every imaginable crypto platform and grinding nightly for WLs paid off. There will be few who know the product, market, competition, and trends as well as you.
Keep grinding! π
10/ TIP #4: BE SELF AWARE
Know what you like and don't like. What your strengths and weaknesses are.
I was good with numbers but I didn't really like them. Probably why all these VCs kept rejecting me.
I loved writing and felt good at it, now I write content.
11/ I was highly introverted and backed away from people. I had a weakness for people-related roles.
To address this gap, I enrolled in leadership classes and made it a point to talk to and connect with other employees weekly.
My weakness turned into a strength.
12/ TIP #5: LEARN FROM FAILURE
You won't get the first Web3 job you apply to.
Refine your approach with each rejection:
β’ Do you lack certain skills?
β’ Did your interview perform well?
β’ More experience needed?
Treat failures as lessons.
13/13 To end this tweet, a moment of thanks to @DiamondNFT for the endless opportunities to grow in this space.
