1/8 🧵 I wanted to make a thread on this. It is not financial advice, this is crypto education on early warning signs. Moving tokens doesn't mean you aren't invested, it just changes WHERE it's held.

2/8 🧵 Exchanges provide an on-ramp into crypto by using fiat in exchange for tokens. Not all exchanges are equal and it's important to look into them carefully. Look into the history of the exchange, not just its performance during the 2021 bull run.

3/8 🧵 One of the biggest issues the bull run of 2021 created was over-leveraging crypto. This caused a cascade of losses. If the protocol/exchange/business relies on leveraging bitcoin that might be a warning sign that at some point it will become destabilized.


4/8 🧵 Ask these questions: How do they plan to tackle regulation? How do they generate revenue? Do they solely rely on new investor liquidity? Do they have proof of reserves? How often are they audited? How transparent is the funding? The answers could be warning signs.


5/8 🧵 In crypto, we're often told to avoid FUD, but where there's smoke there can sometimes be fire. "When in doubt, move it out", you can always move it back later if it was a false alarm, don't feel bullied into staying in a bad situation.


6/8 🧵 Form an exit strategy for crypto investments since this is an area of high-risk and volatility, exit strategies for worst and best-case scenarios are needed. Do not ignore red flags, you want to take action before the stampede. Have a self-custody wallet ready and waiting.

7/8 🧵 Consider the 80/20 rule which involves keeping only 20% of your overall crypto portfolio on exchange and the other 80% in a self-custody wallet. It can help to lessen stress, but still enjoy the benefits of on-exchange usage. NFA


8/8 🧵 Self-education is the best security. Knowing what to look for and when. Observe the CEOs and teams, and be involved in the communities to see things unfold before the news covers it.

🧵2/7 After 2018, I realized that just because I was a crypto investor, didn’t mean I should neglect to invest in hard assets that have a solid cash resale value. I chose to invest my crypto profits in metals, land, and trailers.

🧵3/7 What Are Assets With Resale Value?

These are assets that can be turned around and sold for cash at any time. Having assets with high resale value can mitigate risk. Their price point has an extremely low chance of becoming $0.

Whether I invested in crypto, or stock dividends, my end goal was to always get physical assets with resale value and not to simply save cash alone. Physical assets can always be rented or sold when cash is needed. NFA.

🧵5/7 Digital assets and physical assets can go hand in hand. Whether I earned small amounts of passives on staked tokens, or small profits from trades I took those to buy silver and copper coins. NFA.
An ounce of silver currently trades for $19.20 USD.

A low price can sometimes mean unrecognized value.

Token Price Vs. Development Activity

🧵1/9 Not FUD, but the truth of what to expect in a downturned crypto market. A Crypto Thread. NFA. DYOR. #crypto #defi

🧵2/9 The the wake of the LUNA/UST situation, and now with Celcius, we are seeing critics who were outspoken against crypto saying "I told you so". 

Any bad news makes them feel more validated.


🧵3/9 "Extreme Fear" becomes the norm to the point enthusiasm and excitement start to weaken due to downward action being the only activity on the charts. 

Those who try to hold out and stick around find themselves in a waiting game.


🧵4/9 This is going to be the hardest part: developers leaving the space. The issue is if there is a lack of money/funds, then it can mean fewer builders wanting to build. 


🧵5/9 Companies *might* start selling and leaving the space as well. This is the part where we might see fewer amenities we enjoyed. 

Less businesses could possibly accept crypto(unless it's stablecoin), and regulators will happily try to "fix" the problem.


6/9 This is where things will be hard, there will be a lot fewer people involved in crypto than there were in 2021. Everything will feel like it's either stagnant or going down. 

This is the stage where those who stay will have to show strength.

All the get-rich-quick schemes have faded away, but the technology and its development are still present and evolving.

Crypto has been mainstream for only a short time, prior to that it was kept alive by the community.

The Truth About What To Expect From Crypto

🧵1/14 Just my honest feelings about crypto and what's happening in the community in the wake of the current crypto market.

🧵 2/14 I feel very passionately about what's happened, not simply because of recent events, but because I have concerns for the sentiment towards crypto in general. It seems it's turning towards the negative with this bear market.

🧵 3/14 I invest in crypto, but I'm also a farmer, and I live a simple, frugal life. I'm not a millionaire. I own an old SUV, not a Lambo. I come from a middle-class family who came from a low-income background.

🧵4/14 I have no sponsorships, and getting rich wasn't the goal for me getting involved in crypto. There were three goals I wanted:
1. To be bankless
2. To feel free of a system that wanted to control me
3. To feel I could hold my money and not have it taken from me

🧵5/14 The centralized financial system and how it operates is something I never believed would work for me. It offered debt, and servitude and I wanted to have self-sufficiency so I didn't NEED as much money to have a good life.


🧵6/14 Decentralization is still important to me, it's never been about the dollar price for me, it's been about having a currency to trade that is outside of the system. I want to see these structures of blockchains, and governance used outside simply degen plays.


🧵7/14 Fear is the biggest tool that is used in markets to manipulate small investors. They understand human nature better than we do. They will look for any bad news and wave it around like a flag to push agendas that are in their best interest and not ours.


🧵8/14 Billions of dollars are in crypto. Crypto is a threat, but only when we understand its purpose and factor that into how we invest.
Crypto was created to say: I'm going to sell you this soda for 1Token no matter what the exchange dollar price is.


🧵9/14 It's important to educate ourselves, but also be honest about why we're in this space. There is a very high risk with investing if the goal is to become "rich". We find more often than not, there's room for failure. This is why risk management is so important.


🧵10/14 Things now are flawed, far from perfect, but I still hope and hold on for the sake of wanting freedom, privacy, change, and decentralization. There are a lot of barriers along the way and events will take place to shake trust and faith.

🧵11/14 I personally choose to still maintain a crypto portfolio to support the protocols I believe in and the progression of what I think could be beneficial in the future. I don't believe in keeping everything in one chain, protocol, or everything in crypto. 


🧵12/14 But I do believe in the potential and power of governance by the people, I believe in the good blockchains can provide to startups and businesses. And I believe that people deserve better than what we're forced to "deal" with.

🧵2/9 Different stablecoins operate differently. This has an impact on how they hold their peg. For example, commodity-backed stablecoins can be backed by gold or silver.

🧵3/9 Stablecoins aren't meant to be risk-free, much like any investment has its risks. They were meant to offer stability against crypto-assets such as BTC and ETH.

🧵4/9 When a stablecoin experiences a depeg it may come as a shock to some, but this is one of the risk factors involved with stablecoins(more so to ones that are algorithmic). I personally focus on how these challenges are handled by their respective teams.


🧵5/9 Stablecoins ease the barrier of entry in the world of DeFi. They offer options for farming, staking, lending, and borrowing. They can also be useful when claiming profits off investments and wanting to convert those gains into a digital asset with more stability.


🧵6/9 Stablecoins can be used like cash, but without the restrictions, the central bank places on cash. This means those who are unbanked or live in areas where they may not qualify can utilize those with stablecoins. 🏦 


🧵7/9 Major finance aggregators in DeFi understand the importance of stablecoins and their relation to providing value. 💲 


🧵8/9 Research into stablecoin use cases, why they're important, and what are the possible risks/issues with the different types of stablecoins. 🤔 

Be informed and be aware of the advantages and disadvantages. Don't be afraid to get involved in the community and ask questions.

I personally, still really believe and value stablecoins and their role in crypto. Crypto is still going through growing pains and we will go through a number of trials, it's about how these problems are handled that will determine the victors of the future. 🏆
