Roughly 3/4 people in design & tech that I meet, have one problem in common - BAD COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
Here's a thread of how I sidelined being an introvert, and learnt communicating effectively.๐งถ
(trust me, it's one of the best things that can happen)
#communicationskills
(1/5) Listen to understand.
Give importance to the other person. Let the other person(s) know that they're heard. Understand what their point is.
Let them complete.
- Don't speak anything until they're done speaing, else it might look like you're arguing.
(2/5) Have an open body-language.
Humans communicate without speaking, too. And hence, your body language & facial expressions play a big role.
Do's & Dont's -
โ Good eye contact
โ Nod when you agree
๐ซ Cross your arms
๐ซ Look away, here & there
(3/5) If chatting/mailing, make sure you read your own message twice.
See the tone, try speaking it loud.
Does it sound rude? Maybe you need to replace some words with sweeter alternatives.
- Be calm while you communicate.
(4/5) THINK before you SPEAK (๐ Golden key).
Take a pause before you speak, there's no rush!
Pay attention to what you gotta say, how can it mean to the other person?
- You gotta avoid embarrassments later, right?
(5/5) SMILE!
Good communication without a smile is like Siri speaking out of an iPhone - EMOTIONLESS.
Pro tip ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
- Don't add tooooo much of emotions. That seems like you're being too cheesy or just fake.
YKR?
Good communication skills can fetch you opportunities like never before. Be it applying for jobs, closing a sale, or even expressing your feelings to someone.
Hence it's #1 soft-skill one can have.
Let's start working on ourself for good!
