In this thread, I wanted to focus on one of my favorite tools, the GRID (and make it an official):
#RandomQGIStoTableauStuff #5
Grids are a fairly easy features to create in @QGIS & then visualize in @TableauPublic for various uses. #DataFam

Previously, I had used @QGIS to create a grid to mimic a diagonal X fill, so it's a similar process.
Here, I created a rectangle grid (1 km x 1 km) over a layer of Ottawa. You can also create grids of points, hexagons, diamonds, etc.

The result is a polygon layer that you can save as a shapefile & open/visualize in @TableauPublic. Before you do, there are other things you can do, e.g. select & copy/paste just the portion of the grid that intersects w/ another layer (in this case, Ottawa).

In @TableauPublic, you can treat the grid shapefile like any other map layer, e.g. as a filter for other charts or maps.
In this viz, I tried to mimic the vintage road atlas (Thomas Guide) where users can select a grid cell to "turn" the pages.

You can also attribute characteristics to the grid. In this example, each point represents the number of amenities (e.g. restaurants) within a 1.5-km buffer.
Similarly, you can use grids to create thematic maps w/ hexagons, squares, etc.

Grids... the possibilities are limited only by your imagination...
For example, in the 4th viz (on NY Pizza place), I added a grid just because I thought it looked cool.š
Anyways, I hope you found this useful. Thanks #DataFam! š
