The number of animal cruelty cases is increasing worldwide because of social networks
This conclusion is contained in the report of the Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition (SMACC). According to its data, for the sake of views, likes and reposts, users often abuse animals, and sometimes even kill them.
This is especially true of macaques, which to many seem like small children. Over the past 1.5 years, monkeys have been abused more than 2,800 times on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, primarily in Asia.
They are dressed in tight clothing, painted with makeup, given alcohol and drugs, washed with soap, which is extremely harmful to them, or attempted sexual abuse. When macaques cry out in fear and pain, many mistakenly think it looks like a smile and approval.
