Les agences Marketing voient la signature d'un grand compte - Fortune 500 - comme un aboutissement.
Pourtant, des millions de SMBs ont des besoins immenses et sont rarement servis.
Voici pourquoi je me suis tourné vers des clients qui font plutôt entre $5M et $50M.
En préambule, vous devez savoir que ce n'est pas par dépit.
J'ai eu la chance de travailler pour beaucoup de ces "Fortune 500" dont vous connaissez les noms, et ça a - presque - toujours été avec plaisir.
Toutefois, j'ai doucement basculé vers les SMBs.
Tout d'abord, je me sens plus utile quand je retravaille la stratégie business ou marketing d'une "petite" boite.
Il y a souvent plus d'ouverture dans les options possibles et plus de flexibilité dans leur implémentation.
Par ailleurs, quand tu tombes sur des clients qui te font confiance, il n'y a pas vraiment de problème de budget car plus de pouvoir de décision est concentré dans moins de mains.
Il y a donc moins de monde à convaincre de faire un chèque à la hauteur des ambitions du projet.
Si ton plan est bon, le budget va suivre.
Une fois que ton plan a prouvé ses résultats, le budget n'a plus vraiment de limites.
Tant qu'on est sur l'argent, les SMBs sont plus ouverts à des business models hybrides, sur lesquels tu vas les facturer avec un flat fee mais aussi ajouter une rémunération à la performance.
Je ne travaille jamais qu'à la performance, car si le client ne paye rien, il n'est pas suffisamment impliqué.
Mais tu ne peux pas vraiment gagner de l'argent si tu ne t'associes pas aux résultats de ton client, d'où l'intérêt, quand c'est possible, de facturer moins en fixe et davantage en variable.
J'ai rencontré un consultant qui facturait toujours $1,500 par mois pour générer $100,000 de marge brute mensuelle à son client.
Il était sous-payé et découragé.
Du coup, il ne donnait plus 100% de ce qu'il avait sous le pied au client.
Mauvais calcul pour les 2.
En travaillant sur la base d'un modèle hybride, il aurait grandi AVEC son client, et les 2 gagneraient beaucoup plus d'argent tout en bâtissant une relation de longue durée.
Pour revenir au sujet des Fortune 500 vs SMBs, il est très difficile de mettre en place un modèle hybride avec un grand compte.
Il est tellement plus simple de signer un SMBs.
En vrac, quelques raisons :
• Il n'y a pas de consultation (et encore moins d'appel d'offre pipé).
• La relation est souvent avec les dirigeants, donc plus pérenne qu'avec des cadres qui changent de job ou de boite tous les 3 ans.
• Il y a 10,000 fois plus de SMBs que de Fortune 500. Même si vous êtes un mauvais vendeur, vous finirez bien par en signer 2 ou 3.
• La relation contractuelle est simplifiée et passe parfois par un simple Bon de Commande + Terms of Services.
• Les termes du deal sont souvent bien meilleurs donc ils vous mettent dans un fauteuil pour bien travailler et générer un maximum de valeur.
