Typefully is fantastic and way too cheap for what you get.
We’ve tried many alternatives at @framer but nothing beats it. If you’re still tweeting from Twitter you’re wasting time.

Interview Questions
• How does k-means work?
• What are its stopping criteria?
• What are its pros and cons?
• How do you choose its number of clusters?
Explain briefly ↓
0/4
1. Working
• k-means is an unsupervised algorithm.
• We want to create groups of similar data points using this algorithm.
• In k-means we begin with a set of random points as clusters.
• We measure the distance of each point from the clusters using some distance metric like euclidean or cosine.
• We assign points to the cluster that is closest to it.
• Then clusters are re-computed by calculating the centroids of all the points that are assigned to them.
• The distance of each point is measured again for the newly calculated cluster centers.
• Any points needing re-assignment are re-assigned.
• This process keeps repeating until a stopping criterion is met.
1/4
2. Stopping Criteria
• No reassignment.
• Number of iterations.
• Clusters remain the same.
• Convergence is achieved when no points are getting re-assigned to different clusters.
• There could be a fixed number of iterations that we can do. But we may miss convergence.
• We can also stop if the clusters remain the same or change.
2/4
3. Pros & Cons
Advantages of k-means
• Relatively simple to implement.
• Scales to large datasets.
• Guarantees convergence.
• Can warm-start the positions of centroids.
• Easily adapts to new examples.
Generalizes to clusters of different shapes.
Disadvantages of k-means
• Choosing k manually.
• Begin dependent on initialization.
• Outliers can drag the clusters.
• Scaling with the number of dimensions.
• Problem with varying sizes and densities.
3/4
4. Choosing the number of clusters
• Elbow method - k value where we see an elbow formation.
• Silhouette method - k value with high silhouette coefficient.
• Gap statistic.
• Using a dendrogram.
