You know why?
Because they signal a lack of understanding. So why should I listen? Lose my trust when I feel they don't know what they're talking about.
As if:
- These are the only two in existence, or even the only two suitable.
- They are mutually exclusiveโeither/or.
It's a ๐๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ธ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ค๐บ. And I suspect they know it!
One simple example is the V-cycle; the "๐ฉ๐ฒ๐ฒ" ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ ๐๐ป๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ด๐ถ๐น๐ฒ and it's supposed to be! It's defined like that.
What worries me more is that some know this and push a darker agenda based on sales and exploiting trust. They sell expensive consulting, then leave teams and businesses to pick up the pieces.
They then blame the Client for incorrect implementation or misunderstandings of the "underlying philosophy," and so on.
It's difficult to trust or give any credit to what they say when it comes across as dishonest!

Just do the best job you can with the tools and resource available. Be adaptable to change and flexible. Admit and correct mistakes.
Resist Sunk-Costs fallacy and stop pouring resources and time into building what you specified initially just because you thought that was the best solution at the time.
If business needs change or context change adapt. Drop what's not needed anymore and pivot. Stop doing what doesnโt make sense. Question every task: Why are we doing it? What value does it bring? Can we drop it?
๐๐๐๐ง๐: ๐๐ผ๐โ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐๐ด๐ถ๐น๐ฒ, regardless of the lifecycle model you choose.

Do your homework and some reading before berating what we do. Come with arguments addressing reality if you want to convince us.
What you do now is not the way. It's just pushing us further apart ...
